What Are You Currently Watching?

Prodigy is very worth watching, though it often takes people getting past the first few episodes, and one of the main characters can be fairly annoying early on. It’s part of a character arc, though.

TOS, I’ve watched scattered episodes here and there, and rewatched the pilot and first episode more recently. TNG, I’ve watched a lot of, but not all, and it was catching it when it was on tv, so I have no idea which episodes I haven’t watched.

DS9, I watched scattered episodes of, and the entire first season. Voyager, I’ve gotten up to the year of hell on, and Prodigy rather drove watching more of Voyager, since Prodigy’s kind of a spiritual successor.

Enterprise, I think I watched the first season or two of a long time ago?

I watched the first season of Discovery, and some of the second. I’ve watched all of Strange New Worlds, and all but the latest season of Lower Decks. And all of Prodigy, of course. Season two was so good…

Er, I watched one episode of Picard?

I’ve watched all the TOS and TNG movies. Haven’t watched the reboot ones.

I went to the Star Trek Experience!

And I’ve seen all of it. We all get there in the end.

Yeah, and odds are when I manage to finish classic, that I’ll start back up on some DS9 or Voyager. I’d kind of like to rewatch Enterprise, too, but that’s the one I don’t really have offhand.

Incidentally, this video channel has a fun series reviewing Voyager and DS9.

I would just recommend watching DS9 in order rather than scattered. Trek’s first foray into actually having an overarching story.

Oh, I agree. Just largely I originally watched it scattered because it was when I caught it on air. The reason I can say I’ve watched all of season one is that I started doing a proper watch of it sometime in the last few years, and got as far as watching all of season 1 in order before getting sidetracked.

In fact, that’s the general trend here is that the older shows I originally watched more scattered, then started doing in order.

The main reason I’m being as scattered as I am with Doctor Who is that I started watching from the beginning, had trouble with the missing episodes, started bouncing around a bit, then dealt with it by deciding to skip over to the beginning of 3’s era and watch in order from there. Afterwards, I backtracked and started trying to pick up all the ones I missed.

Classic Doctor Who is fairly commonly watched out of order, since the serials are so standalone. I’m rather in the minority of having only ever watched it in order.

Rewatched the first few of these, and they are definitely fun…

Yeah, Prodigy is on my list, but it’s all dependent on other people. ST stuff tends to be on my birthday and Christmas wish lists when people ask for them.

I religiously watched TNG when it was on, might never have missed an episode. But DS9, Voyager…missed some, Enterprise…hardly saw any. Life was different by then and I wasn’t in front of the TV as much.

More recent series I’ve had to leech off of friend(s) who have streaming services. I have none. But eventually I get the hardcopies.

Picard is a very different beast, indeed. Overall I’ve quite liked it, but it’s an odd mix of going in bold new directions and wallowing in the past. Probably means it has something for everyone.

Okay, enough about that other sci-fi series. Let’s turn our attention back to the show we’re all here for - Babylon 5!

Wait, was that the one? Hmm…

If I reviewed Voyager I’d probably have a similar description. I don’t like Voyager much.

In a time when cancel culture exists (which I don’t agree with btw); how has that woman not been cancelled?

We have a Star Trek thread around here somewhere? Seems like we’d have people who would use it.

I see 60s Doctor Who versus 60s Star Trek, Other Genre TV, and Favourite other franchises?. Not quite the same, though.

Voyager grew on me a bit. When I originally watched it, I got about as far as Neelix’s lungs being stolen and noped out, but I gave it a few more attempts at getting further, and I do like it more at this point.

Trouble is, when it’s good, it’s good, but they hit the reset button every episode, and also have some episodes that really annoy me…

I think I can state categorically that the episodes in the first few seasons of Doctor Who were vastly superior to any Star Trek material that had been released to that point.

Watch Boom. Fantastic story. Really shows how good actors we have this season!

My 15 Doctor rewatch ranking

  2. Boom

The Star Trek pilot did beat Doctor Who in having an alien villain say Excellent! in the same tone of voice as the Cyber Leader years before Doctor Who, though.

The first 3 seasons of Who were definitely better than Trek’s output from 1963 to early 1966, yes.

Maybe someone should start one  .
