Hello, all!

Hi, I’m Cas. I’ve been a DW fan for about nine-ish years, to varying degrees of intensity. I started with Eleven and was hooked, he’s still definitely a nostalgic favorite. I’ve seen all of NuWho a few times over at this point, my top Doctors being Twelve and Nine. I’ve started getting into Classic more recently after due time, so I’m slowly making my way through that. In terms of spin-offs, I’ve seen all of Torchwood (Children of Earth is easily the best season, though I enjoyed all the silly/stupid stuff they got up to in S1 and S2) and The Sarah Jane Adventures is next on the docket for me to watch. I’ve only just dipped my toes into books and audios, so I’d love to hear everyone’s recommendations in that regard. But overall, outside of Doctor Who, I love film and literature. So, the wide range of Doctor Who content nicely fits in with my interests lol. It’s been neat to find this community and it’s nice to meet you all

Hello! I love providing information, so here is some:

It’s difficult to come up with recommendations without knowing you well, but here are some Doctor Who books that I have enjoyed:

Now We Are Six Hundred : a humorous/parodic anthology of Doctor Who related poetry.

The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who A short story anthology/popular science nonfiction hybrid that contains short stories from the perspective of multiple Doctors based on science, which also includes information on how science has affected the creation of Doctor Who in the real world.

The Day of the Doctor novelization. I remember that when I first heard someone reccomend this one, I thought “Novelization? Isn’t that just a rehash of the TV story?” Nope, this novelization is a transformative experience, turning a good story into a great one, adding interesting new elements, and reinterpreting old ones. It may in fact, be worth your money, even if the idea of a novelization does not appeal at first.

For audios, instead of providing specific titles, I will instead give you advice on places where you can stream them for free. Spotify has a large selection, such as the first 50 stories in the Main range (two hour serial style stories that follow classic Doctors). The BBC sounds website/app also has some stories that you could try (Thread where I provide links):
Free Big Finish Audio Dramas on BBC Sounds!

Also, I just tried the Into the TARDIS podcast today, (which features Colin Baker, Sixth Doctor actor, as host). The promotional podcast features full length Big Finish stories like the examples above, but with an even wider spread of stories available, so you can see what you like.

The “Available for Free” filter (accessible through profile dropdown menu “My Account Settings” > “Customisation” scroll down to “Filters to Include”, drag over to active filters side) can provide more examples of audio stories and other stories that are available for free.

Other stories may be available for free depending on your circumstances, and I would also recommend checking your library system for additional Doctor Who titles you may enjoy.

Did you know that as an American (or at least one who is US based), you can stream most classic Doctor Who episodes for free with ads on Tubi?
https://tubitv.com/networks/classic_doctor_who

I hope my treatise does not overwhelm you, but if you have any questions about this information, you can ask it on the forum, and I or someone else will likely answer your query.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I’ve read a few Doctor Who books and I liked Nuclear Time, an 11th Doctor novel with the Ponds. It’s a fun story that’s about a seemingly perfect town but it’s hiding something and the Doctor is in the center of the chaos. It’s an interesting read. I second the Day of the Doctor novelization. It expands on an already amazing episode with new scenes and expanding on existing ones. I also like the way it plays with the perspectives

Welcome, welcome! Come and sit! (Pats the sofa and put on Scherzo, which is pretty near in our Audio Club) My recommendation is to ignore all the prerequisites jump right in

For books, I recommend Vampire Science from the EDAs with the Eighth Doctor and his new companion Sam. Pretty stand-alone, fascinating characters. And Silent Stars Go By from the NSAs with the Eleventh Doctor and Ponds. Great atmosphere. I actually feel a bit colder when reading it.

I third The Day of the Doctor novelization. It’s supposedly written by the Doctor. I believe it’s the Curator, specifically. The 400 Years of the Doctor is such a great expansion of that London Tower scene. The novel hits much harder.

Welcome! Good to have you here!

To add to @lwebb’s incredibly detailed information, there is also a thread where we discuss other free stories and @SweetAIBelle is posting links to YouTube videos of full Classic serials available for free there

Stories available for FREE (Doctor Who and the Whoniverse)

As for recommendations for audios, if you love the Eleventh Doctor then you could try The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles with the companion Valarie. It’s one of the highest rated series on the site!

Here is a thread about it

The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles

The trailer:

I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to hearing more from you!

And you have, of course, omitted the all important cat thread:

Welcome! I hope you have fun here!

My best recommendation is to just look around on the site a bit, find something that catches your eye and is affordable to you, if you like it, find something similar next, if not, try something else! Order is overrated, and who knows what you might find!

Welcome! If you enjoyed Torchwood, I can recommend some of the novels. Not all of them are good, but it’s really down to personal taste. My favourite is Almost Perfect, but a lot of people have issues with it. Twilight Streets is one that most people tend to enjoy, and I’ve heard great things about The House that Jack Built, though I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, myself.

Welcome! I adore SJA so I hope you enjoy it toi
o! My only recommendation would be to get obsessed with a single companion and then go crazy with them in the EU. That way you can sample lots of different ranges, especially of audios, and see what you like!

Welcome!

I fourth the Day of the Doctor novelisation. The Giggle one is also very good.

I really hope you enjoy SJA, I’m currently watching the series and loving it!

If you want book recommendations, I’ve read a lot, so you could always let me know what you like and I can recommend stuff.

No clearly you have to get obsessed with Leela and/or Romana, so you can experience Gallifrey

I fear I may have a reputation  Benny and Leela and the Countermeasures gang are all excellent places to start

I also recommend getting obsessed with River Song :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

She has her own range of Audios but also if you want to listen to everything she’s been in, it’s a huge variation of stories! From Eighth Doctor to Peladon, Eighth of March, Tenth Doctor, she gets around

And she has a story with Leela in Eighth of March 1
