“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe.”
I have never seen anyone try this desperately to get banned from the site! How dare you say such blasphemous things!!
It’s a shame I don’t have the power to ban anyone…
Well, I do have the power, and people round here are lucky I haven’t banned everyone who voted The Faceless Ones down over The Underwater Menace in the Elimination Game…

I really do not like the incarnation of the Doctor in this. Part of it, I think, is the implementation. His reluctance to help anyone anymore could have been an intriguing part of the story if accompanied by the mimicry of an actor, showing inner turmoil. As it was, it just did not feel right.
I was also put off by his attitude towards Alison. The scene when he says goodbye for the first time very early on in the serial, as if he had a deep, maybe romantic connection with Alison (at that point in time still a complete stranger), registered for me somewhere between strange and creepy. Again, actual actors could have saved this scene for me by nonverbally expressing e.g. an attraction at first sight or something similar. But with the possibilities they had, it would have been better to drop this and similar scenes later on, imho.
At the same time, I did find the story quite intriguing. It would have been a good first serial for a new series of Doctor Who, with enough mysteries about the past to solve to be quite interesting.
Still, only 2,5/5 or maybe 3/5 from my point of view.
Watched Episode 3 of Revenge of the Cybermen last night during supper.
Watched The Aztecs and it is genuinely my favourite 60’s story thus far. It was just plain brilliant!
The Aztecs is perfect from beginning to end - one of my all time favourite stories and one I never ever tire of watching.
Just finished rewatching Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways and still far and away my favourite RTD finale, and second favourite finale of NuWho (after World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls). Sooo good; Doctor Who finales are at their best when they’re more character drama than anything else.
I largely agreee with you. “Parting of the Ways” edges “The Doctor Falls” for me though. I love both, but the fact that the Tenth Planet design was so chilling in “World Enough and Time”, I was disappointed with the return of the stompy modern Cybermen in “The Doctor Falls”. In comparison, the use of the Daleks in “Parting of the Ways” was pretty much perfect for me.
For me nothing will beat “Journey’s End” as the best RTD finale, and probably best finale in all of Who imo.
All of the characters from all the spinoffs getting together in the TARDIS was our Avengers Assemble moment (before Marvel did it!), them flying to TARDIS together was the biggest moment of joy I’ve experienced with the Whoniverse, and the ending just absolutely crushed my soul into dust.
I love it!
I am also hugely fond of “The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End”. Truly epic, the return of Davros (and what a return!), a real sense of threat from the Daleks in “The Stolen Earth” (I still maintain that RTD writes the Daleks best out of all three modern showrunners, with Chibnall in second place).
If you’re gonna go big, this is the way to do it!
Best season finale in Doctor Who?
I’m going with Inferno…
Just rewatched Oxygen - my goodness those opening space shots look stunning! Having also recently rewatched Into the Dalek, I think I’d forgotten how amazing this era looks.
And you know what, I enjoyed Capaldi in this - but I think he’s helped by the fact he has Matt Lucas and Pearl Mackie to bounce off; such a brilliant TARDIS team and such a shame they only lasted one series.
This is a proper scary space adventure but I will admit this rewatch reminded me that the final solution all seems a bit rushed and sort of happens ‘off screen’. I think it gets a bit compromised so they can give a few extra minutes over to the cliffhanger (which it seems wasn’t originally part of the script).
Watched Episode 4 of Revenge of the Cybermen during lunch.
This is also one of my all time favourites! I’d put “The Green Death” in the same bracket, mind (although for different reasons - a companion departure with the weight typically afforded to modern day companion departures).
I think the Letts/Dicks team had a very similar mindset towards finales to modern day showrunners. Whilst “Inferno” and “The Green Death” are my favourites, there’s something of an epic event story to each of:
Inferno
The Daemons
The Time Monster
The Green Death; and
The Planet of the Spiders
Today I watched a couple episodes of the Sarah Jane Adventures.
- The Lost Boy: interesting premise, but I thought the ending could have been a tiny bit better.
- The Last Sontaran: I liked it, but it wasn’t anything special or something, just a fun story.
- The Day of the Clown: I think this one was brilliant. I had far too much fun watching it.
Rewatched the first and last of those myself recently with my eldest.
It was so weird seeing Bradley Walsh as Oddbob!
Rani makes an instant impression doesn’t she?
I feel like Day of the Clown is not such a popular episode and I’ve never got that tbh, I really enjoy that one! I love Rani so much
How can you anything but love Anjli Mohindra
I think it’s really fun that Bradley Walsh and Anjli Mohindra have both played villains against the other in the Whoniverse
