Just finished it and feel like it IS just okay… Except McGann and Fisher were absolutely terrific, especially considering it was their debut story. As a story it’s okay and whatever, but as an introduction to an era? Really solid!
Excelis Decays
Finished Excelis Decays, next up is Stuff of Legend.
I listened to Stuff of Legend yesterday. (Another time I used an audio to procrastinating working on uni stuff.) I loved it. It was so much fun.
THE LAST ADVENTURE: The Red House
A lovely inversion of the norm and a rather interesting moral dilemma. Good stuff, with questions legitimately raised regarding the Doctor’s impulsiveness and, in this case as in others throughout the show’s history, failure to take in the full picture before acting. He’s not wrong in terms of intent but he’s definitely not aware of the wider situation and, thus, consequences of his actions until potentially too late. Two stories in and this boxed set is holding up very well so far. Oh, and it’s always such a delight to hear more from Charley, our Edwardian (or should that be Georgian?) adventuress!
Sounds good! I’m looking forward to this one.
I’m going to finish listening to the Target audiobook of An Unearthly Child and continue with Excelis Decays, Stuff of Legends and the new Benny set.
Doom Coalition, Ravenous, The Monthly Adventures, you name it, I’m probably going to listen to it
Listening to Star-Crossed as I wait for my flight and just finished Swipe Right. It’s great! I knew it had an asexual supporting character which is great, but it explicitly stating Nine is aromantic makes me so happy!
I finished An Unearthly Child - it was a perfectly fine novelisation.
I finished Excelis Decays - it was a perfectly fine 7th Doctor adventure.
Listened to the first half of Stuff of Legend - it was a fun, traditional adventure for Eight and Charley, and it’s just about to turn interesting!
Just finished Face of the Apocalypse! Very fun time and Eccleston and Kingston have outstanding chemistry! Really loved how small the cast was in this one, and the twists and turns throughout.
Should just have time for Archipelago before my flight!
Finished Archipelago JUST as I finished boarding! Far and away my favourite 9DA! Love a good character study, love the performances from Eccleston and Kingston, and REALLY love that we finally got a 9DA that fully explores how broken 9 truly is! Incredible.
On the way to the show I listened to more River Song (finished series 6), and then invigorated by seeing Charley live I started listening to Invaders from Mars on the walk back (that’s where I’m up to on the Audio Club) but couldn’t finish it yet.
I was a bit so-so about Charley from her first few stories but now I’ve seen her live I LOVE her!
Finishing off Enemy Mine whilst I do the ironing
This is the way.
Everyone should love Charley (and India Fisher) so it is good that you have finally seen the light !
Listened to Lost and Found - review pending.
I was thinking about listening to the Rory boxset (might be inspired by the Elimination game). Has anyone listened to it? Is it good?
I have both but haven’t got around to listening to them yet.
I have, I think the first is better than the second, but they’re both pretty fun
Resistance - Really like this one. IMO the setting of the French resistance automatically gives a story a poignant air (well, except maybe for the movie Top Secret!), so it starts with a leg up. And I really liked the stuff about Polly’s uncle.
On a side note, time is a funny thing. The idea that one of the Doctor’s comtemporary companions was born during WWII…in 2024 that just feels like it can’t possibly be right. Is it possible this show has really been around for over 60 years?! Wow!
