Got hold of a fan-read version of Osskah a while back and finally remember to listen to it today. The narrative is a bit confusing a few minutes in, but it becomes quite clear what the author is trying to do once 8th introduces himself as a singular/unique/specific-healer/person of learning. It’s quite funny to see Osskah referring to the Doctor as specific-healer throughout.
It’s a good story that deserves more ratings!
I got all the Big Finish Short Trips books digitally, so it’s a bit of a surprise to see that it’s only 14 pages for an audiobook 40 min long.
I loveThe Holy Terror. It’s one of my all-time favourites, televised and audio. Chilling, funny, disturbing, inventive and, in the final analysis, deeply surprising.
Still loving this. It’s a gentle story with relatively low stakes on the one hand and yet human history at risk, so with potential for significant ramifications a la ‘The Devil’s Chord’ and the loss of music.
Principally an opportunity for our TARDIS crew to revel in Parisian art culture, and to (if you’ll excuse the pun) paint a rich picture of the creativity of this period.
The episode positively flew by. Just a joy to listen to.
Finished Survival of the Fittest, which wraps up my time with the Main Range in this audiothon. Yeah, nearly 250 stories in my collection, a whopping 5 of them from the main Big Finish range. But as I’ve said before, my friend was subscribed to the main range, so when I bought stuff, it was other ranges.
Good story this, Klein as companion makes for an interesting dynamic, and the alien race is interesting. Of course, the story does kind of end on a cliffhanger, but oh well. Still enjoyed it.
Finally had a good Doctor Who podcast recommended to me - Too Hot for TV which is all about the expanded universe - the first episode covers the comic strip A Cold Day in Hell and the BBV audio Republica. Likeable hosts, a good dose of humour and subject matter which isn’t just retreading the same stuff other podcasts do.
I’ve also started the audiobok of The Cabinet of Light which is interesting.
I will try this one out, I feel like I have the same problem as you when it comes to DW podcasts in that I have lots of trouble finding ones I like. Unfortunately because of my deeply ingrained xenophobia (/j obvs) I for some reason can’t listen to American accents talk about Doctor Who at any length. Toby Hadoke’s Too Much Information is very good but Happy Times And Places has a tendency to devolve into Middle-Aged Man Waffle quite quickly at moments.
I really enjoyed Hamster With A Blunt Penknife up until the host felt it was extremely important to let us all know (apropos of nothing) that he’d been sleeping with a lot of large-dicked black men his divorce (SPOILERED because even if I had to hear it you don’t have to see it) and I suddenly realized a lot of the content of the podcast was just needlessly crass sexual humour.
I can’t get into Hamster’s style enough to have got as far as that episode (but it’s sad to hear the host is divorced as I remember lots of posts from him on GB about sharing his love of Doctor Who with his partner).
I know what you mean about Hadoke’s and occasionally his self-doubt can get in the way but overall I find his stuff endlessly fascinating and what he doesn’t know about every single actor ever to appear in classic Doctor Who isn’t worth knowing.
To be honest, I don’t want too many podcasts to listen to otherwise I’ll never get through my massive backlog of audios either!
Nice walk this morning. Got half of In 2 Minds from BBV listened to. Had to stop as walking near a busy, wet, main road. The Chrono Trigger soundtrack took over from there.
Less time to wallow in period atmosphere today, and more plot revelations. So the apparently benign Dora Muse turns out to be a villain, whilst the Doctor and Ace draw the battle lines between themselves and Iris. Meanwhile, Hex gets to do a spot of life modelling!‘Muse of Fire’ is still a fun and diverting story. Paul Magrs has not disappointed. I’m curious to see how it all comes together in the final episode. Great stuff so far!
While interesting, it does sort of meander in the middle. I think it would have been better at about half the length. Solid acting and the sound design is good.
BBV: Krynoid 01: Root of All Evil 3.5/5
A simple story well told. Kinda reminds me of a proto-Torchwood Main Range story. The acting is solid, with some great sound design.
BBV: Krynoid 02: The Green Man 3/5
An interesting idea that meanders a little. The setting is good, with a cast of characters that really flesh out the world. The acting is solid with some good sound design.
It seems to be a common trope with BBV releases that they tend to stretch an idea to the limit. Sadly, it means that some potentially good releases get knocked down a peg or two in my ratings.

Listened to the second set of 9DAs. All of them were really good! Fright Motif was probably my favourite, but Girl, Deconstructed was deffo a close second.
