Currently been rewatching Criminal Minds from the start. One more episode of season 1 to go. It still holds up, great cast, interesting profiling. Parts of it are still finding their feet but it’s pretty good. I haven’t watched it in probably 8 years or so, and I’ve forgotten almost all plot lines so it feels fresh but familiar to me.
Part IV is what got me into Lupin. Well, Detective Conan crossover helped me as well.
Part IV is sooooo good.
I’m slowly trying to get back into Star Trek (as in, I’m forcing myself to become fannish about it again). I used to be a huge fan of the Original Series and TNG years ago, and I keep feeling compelled to revisit the franchise again.
The first episode of TOS is miles better than An Unearthly Child. It’s interesting how two sci-fi shows made in the 60s can take such wildly different approaches to storytelling (and its not like Star Trek had giant budgets either). I like Doctor Who, but Star Trek is just the better show.

7 posts were split to a new topic: Shipping in Doctor Who
I’ve been enjoying the partnership of Rosie Jones and Jack Dee on Taskmaster. No shipping there!
FYI, I’ve split off the discussons about 60s Who vs 60s Trek and who loves who in Who to their own threads as it was all getting a bit off topic (and it was all my fault anyway!)
The sigh that Jack Dee gives at the start of this series’ title sequence is comedy gold.
We started watching Nobody Wants This yesterday. It started great. I used to love Veronica Mars and OC and it is fun to see Adam Brody and Kirsten Bell in this.
My wife and I watched this a couple of weeks ago. We’re also fans of The OC, so it was fun seeing Adam Brody in this. It is a very good show!
Watched the final episode of Season 7 of Castle last night which will lead to my wife, my eldest and I watching Season 8 together. We watched the series first and then my eldest got into it and we’ve been playing cat and mouse ever since as to who was getting ahead so we all made a promise to watch the final season together.
So, as a 40-year-old, I rarely talk about the fact that I watch anime. I’ve watched it since the mid 90s. Tapes were £20 for 2 22 minutes episodes etc.
One of my favourite show has always been One Piece. I remember getting bootleg tapes, VCDs, and even knock off “”“Chinese”“” DVD releases. My other half is a bit younger than me and has never watched any anime. I don’t think they would appreciate Dragon Ball/Z/Super, so I am introducing them to One Piece. I don’t think the pace of the official release will appeal to them, so I’m going to introduce them through One Pace.
One Pace is a fan re-edit to match the original manga more closely. As much as I love One Piece nearly half of it is “filler”, or non-“cannon”. I think saving nearly 160 hours of watching for a first timer is .
We have watched the first 4 episodes yesterday, and we will watch more tonight. My plex server has been filling up all day with the episodes and I think we will be ready to go.
I just wanted to post about it.
Watching Young Sheldon, the latest season episode An Ankle Monitor and A Big Plastic Crap House and they’ve just had Sheldon imagine a Portaloo as a TARDIS with Sheldon dressed as the 7th Doctor and only the correct bloody theme music playing!!
I binged all of Castlevania: Nocturne and loved it
I feel like the pacing in anime TV shows is often a real bummer. Maybe one of the reasons I like Lupin the 3rd so much is because the pacing is just fine.
Decades ago, I was very into Naruto. I tried to rewatch it, but it’s just toooo slooooooowww. For people who have never watched one of these shows: The Web Planet is fast-paced in comparison.
Another show I really like is the newest adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin on Crunchyroll. It matches the manga very closely. Others critique it for not being funny enough, but I guess they compare it with another adaptation I never saw. Compared with the manga, it is really good and well-paced. Maybe more modern shows have gotten rid of the 4-episode-filler-before-something-happens structure?
By the way, Season 2 of Kenshin just started airing.
As I watched them as they aired, the filler in Naruto, One Piece etc wasn’t that noticeable. When you binge it, you can tell.
It’s the same with some DW serials. I think a lot of the filler-y ones would be better when you watch, say, one a night.
As for Rurouni Kenshin, I have seen the original. I’m patient and I am willing to wait for the new version to finish before watching it. I have heard good things, though.
Watched Lost Boys and Fairies tonight on BBCi Player.
It’s a roller coaster of emotions and amazingly good.
There is a couple of (non-gratuitous) sex scenes and some swearing, if anyone is planning to watch it.
Love in all it’s forms is at the heart of the story.
We’re now on the Baratie arc. It’s one of my favourite early ones.
Watching the new season of Industry which is spectacular. Incredibly tense. Makes working in an investment bank look simultaneously like the best and worst thing in the world.
Produced by Bad Wolf too which is surprising given the difference in style.
Has anyone seen the new Tomb Raider show on Netflix?
