One of my favourite shows at the moment is Agatha All Along. I really dig the spooky vibes they are going for, along with Kathryn Hahn’s consistently hilarious portrayal of Agatha Harkness.
I still can’t believe some people were complaining that she’s ‘too nasty’. That’s the point! She’s the nasty witch of Westview. It’s what makes her so fun to watch.
Watched the first episode of Ludwig and it’s rather fun and has set up a good mystery. David Mitchell isn’t exactly playing against type but he is totally watchable and Anna Maxwell Martin is bringing great energy as his sister-in-law.
Oh and there’s a Doctor Who Easter Egg in one of the flashbacks to his childhood.
My wife and I have been watching Outer Banks this past week. We tried to find something new to watch together, and this one popped up on Netflix, and now we’re almost done with Season 1. It’s surprisingly addictive!
There’s a guy who comes into my work every week who is the spitting image of Alexander Vlahos and I have to restrain myself from talking about Merlin every time, I love that show
Currently, I’m also watching Agatha All Along (yes, Disney+ got me again ) and really loving it.
Imho, it’s not as brilliant as WandaVision , but I guess it’s more attuned to my goth sensibilities.
Really hope they stick the landing: Agatha could be a complex character with understandable reasons for all the evil she did, without absolving her from the responsibility for her deeds. Or they might find a way to make her “good” via a tragic backstory and possession or similar stuff.
Well, I’ll probably enjoy it either way, and the makers of the show are the same people who made WandaVision . So, there’s hope for complex characterization until the end.
We’re very behind on the Marvel shows but Agatha looks good. We’ve still got Secret Invasion, Echo and Loki Series 2 to watch and I keep trying to suggest we should do the Netflix ones but my recommendations have taken a hit since insisting we watch Andor.
I don’t think my wife trusts my judgement any more… (Andor has been soooo slooooowwwww! And I’m saying it now, Andor himself is dull as ditchwater!)
Just finished Broadchurch series 2 and I enjoyed it. The way the court case ended did shock me and wished it went the other way but it did lead to a great scene with everyone at the hut. I thought the romance between Jocelyn and Maggie did feel like it was thrown in last minute. Eve Myles and James D’Arcy worked well together and I liked how the Sandbrook ended.
I actually enjoyed Echo quite a lot. It’s different, and shows that are truly different are few and far between, I feel.
I liked Andor so much, but it lost me mid-season. I’ve been planning to rewatch it as a whole for quite some time now, but, well, it was not only brilliant but also sooo slow, imho.
It’s always interesting to see how differently these shows hit for different people.
Started the new series of The Cleaner and Alma’s Not Normal last night. Love both series - both so funny and with a huge amount of heart at the same time. Sophie Willan is our discovery of the year what with this and her turn on Taskmaster - and she’s in Ludwig.
Also finished Colin from Accounts Series 2 this week as well and agree with whoever said upthread that it’s a step down from the first series. It didn’t seem to know who it wanted to focus on, what it wanted to do with them. All the supporting characters seemed to fall further into caricature and it just felt very aimless - it also had some disorienting time jumps between episodes. And Colin was hardly in it!
Finished Disc 1 of Lupin the 3rd - Part IV (“parts” are for Lupin III what seasons are for other shows). The live-action adaptation piqued my interest a while ago. The animated movie “Lupin III: The First” got me hooked. The Lupin III franchise has an astonishing breadth and, at times, depth. Each interpretation is more or less different, resembling a multiverse with variations of the same characters rather than a straight continuity. Most of the time, it is definitely different from the mainstream (cw: beware, there are interpretations that are not suitable for kids, even so they look like just another funny cartoon).
Lupin the 3rd - Part IV so far mainly follows a mainstream, mostly family-friendly route. Gorgeous visuals. Solid stories. Good TV.
