It is actually kind of fun to do this when you are trying to do it as it is intended.
Mission to the Known
Short Story
The Daleks have failed their mission and get a new order. I am not a fan of the style of writing of this and it feels more complicated than it has to be. 2.5/5
Next up: All Flesh is Grass [Chapters 4-16] - finally time to finish the book.
Focusing on Benton when watching this gif on repeat is hilarious What is he doing?
Why did you point that out? I can’t stop watching now! I’m getting a Benton overload!
Tenth Doctor makes sense, but I wouldn’t have thought the Eighth Doctor would be seen as that popular in focus groups. Unless the focus groups were made mostly of fans?
Because I know Paul McGann is hugely popular in the fan base, mostly due to Big Finish, but I can’t imagine many casual audiences being overly enthusiastic about his Doctor. I mean, on TV, he only appeared in one TV movie and one minisode, so to general viewers, you would assume that Paul McGann would be viewed as a bit more niche.
I don’t know. And I might be misremembering somewhat too
I think that fans are the target audience for this. Who else is going to buy 2 books and 7 audios and more? Therefore I can see a focus group producing this.
I do remember reading about a focus group as well, which is what they based TLV on. That probably explains why Eight is involved with this.
I have also started what might be the hardest part of this. The game The Edge of Time. I am playing on Switch and it is a laggy mess on top of a pretty strange game design where nothing is explained. I have had to look at a walkthrough a lot.
I’ve played a little of the PC Version, The Edge of Reality, and it’s basically a VR game ported over to other systems. There’s no real explanation of the controls, there’s no menus for changing key bindings or for saving, it’s autosaves only and not often enough, you basically have to memorize how each section works cause if you die, it takes you back to the nearest autosave. There’s not even a prompt to save when you get off, so if you’re not exiting the game close to an autosave, you lose a ton of progress. On this one, you’re probably better off watching it on youtube.
There is also no prompt telling when you die. I died a lot before I realized that I was not making any progress.
It’s an interesting story concept, and I really would love more Doctor Who video games, but this one didn’t stick the landing. Even just a little bit of fine tuning and better user interfaces, and it would at least be playable.
I think that a telltale-style game would fit Doctor Who perfectly
So we don’t derail TV any further, don’t forget that we do have a video game thread on the forum.
We are soon adding video games to the site properly, as @Tian has generously offered to help with collecting them all together. I was reminded of this YouTube Video I watched recently “I Played Every Doctor Who Video Game”, it’s a lot of funWhat are your favourite Doctor Who Video Games?
We also have this too:
I love video games and I love Doctor Who. But I’ve found most Doctor Who video games to be very disappointing. I thought it would be fun to think of ideas of Whoniverse-themed video games. I think one of the problems with the ones we have had so far is they all try to be “Action adventure where you play The Doctor” which is actually kind of dull. They should use other genres and even small indie games for inspiration, and just take fun parts of the Whoniverse into the story. For example, I’l…

So we don’t derail TV any further
This is a topic specifically about Time Lord Victorious, a cross-media event including the video game. It’s not being derailed?
As for The Edge of Time / Edge of Reality - I own the VR game and all the hardware to play it, in theory it should be one of the most amazing games ever but it’s just bad.
I’ve played indie titles made by a single person that are way better than it. I just don’t understand how the BBC manages to produce such terrible games lol.
The only good part is being able to walk around the TARDIS in VR, but then I can do that in my Steam VR without the need for that game (it’s my Home on there, and my happy place lol).

The only good part is being able to walk around the TARDIS in VR,
And on the Switch version, I can’t even do that.
It seemed like it was starting to veer into video games in general with Tian’s comment about Telltale being a potential good fit for a Doctor Who game.
Oh and to top it all off, the “Time Lord Victorious” stuff was added to The Edge of Time as a free update after the game is released (all the stuff with the Tenth Doctor wasn’t there at first launch) but even though I paid full price on PC, it only came to Playstation VR and Oculus Quest.
Why?! I was fuming.
I’ll probably just watch the relevant changes on YouTube if I ever get to do a TLV run.

if I ever get to do a TLV run.
You should do that. I think that it is a fun story when you get into it. The order I am following helps a lot. I am thinking about writing a guide on it when I am done.
Oh yes please, write a guide for the site
