Here’s the Siren’s of Audio episode on the series.
Will listen to that after I am done. Is it a good podcast?
Echoes of Extinction (Eight)
Big Finish
Last one for today. It was fine but Nothing special. I don’t yet know how this connects to the greater narrative. This part gets 3.5/5 but is only half the story. The second half is much later in the order I am following.
Next up: He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not - Big Finish but first I am going to sleep.
I’ve enjoyed what I listened to of theirs. I forget how I was downloading the audio files to listen to on my MP3 player, but I kinda fell away and when I went back, that option had disappeared. So I haven’t listened to anything recent. I just happened to see this when I went to listen to the Carole Ann Ford episode just now.
It’s definitely one of the better podcasts out there and its good to have one which focusses on the audios.
I listened to the 8 trilogy, read the books, and listened to the 4th Doctor audio. Found the 8 trilogy fun, the books a bit underwhelming (especially All Flesh…) but remember loving the 4th audio and finding it a tonne of fun
Oooh I’m aware of The Sirens of Audio, but have never listened to them. I will give them a go. I see that their latest episode is about the Sutekh audios, so that’s a good starting point.
He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not
Big Finish
A fun story that stars the eight Doctor on a planet that does not make sense. Of course, it is good! An interesting plot that is not that important to the TLV but shows the effects of it. 4/5
Next up: The Enemy of My Enemy - Big Finish
The Enemy of My Enemy
Big Finish
Interesting to see how the Eight Doctor and the Daleks become allies and what made them go back in time to face the Tenth Doctor at the end of “The Knight, The Fool and The Dead”. 4/5
Next up: Master Thief - Big Finish
Master Thief
Big Finish
This was okay. Nothing special. I give this 3/5.
Next up: Monstrous Beauty - DWM
Monstrous Beauty
DWM
Not as good of an introduction as the Eight Doctors audio. It was an okay story but nothing special. 3.5/5
Next up: Can I help you? THE T-SHIRT!!!
Can I help you?
T-Shirt
I don’t know what I expected from this but a nearly readable text that did not say anything was kind of boring. 1.5/5
Next up: All Flesh is Grass [Chapters 1-3] - Because why would you like to read a whole book…
I know it probably couldn’t be helped given how busy he is, but it is odd that the multiplatform event focused around the Tenth Doctor places much of the audio drama side’s focus on the Eighth Doctor. The Tenth Doctor did feature in Echoes Of Destruction, but the Big Finish CDs were Paul McGann.
In an ideal world, you’d have the Tenth Doctor as the overarching antagonist of the Eighth Doctor audios, with David Tennant reprising his role.
I think that’s why I was underwhelmed overall! For an event where 10 is meant to be the antagonist, he’s not really much of one and when he is it’s not for long enough to really have lasting impact for me
If I remember correctly, this was was essentially the result of a focus group. I might be misremembering this, but I want to say that they basically took what was popular with either fans or the mainstream (which ended up being Eighth Doctor, Tenth Doctor and Daleks) and crafting a story around them.
All Flesh is Grass [Chapters 1-3]
Novel
It feels strange that the sequel is written by another author than the first book and you can tell in the way that it is written. But I prefer Una McCormack over Steve Col. I think that the start of this book is okay. I am hoping that we will get a lot of moments with all three Doctors because those are the highlights thus far. But we can’t continue with the book now. That would be easy. I will not rate three chapters…
Next up: Tales of the Dark Times in the Comics Creator app
Tales of the Dark Times
Comic
Five small comics about stuff happening in the Dark Times. They were fine but not worth paying to unlock them in the app. There probably should be five stories in the Guide. They are completely different. 3/5
Next up: The Minds of Magnox - BBC Audio
The Minds of Magnox
BBC Audio
This was okay. It feels like a problem with a lot of these middle stories is that they don’t move the story forward enough. 3.5/5
Next up: Mission to the Known - Another story that was attached to an action figure.
You are really powering through these and I think it’s the first time I’ve seen any real comments about some of the more esoteric parts of the Victoriousverse. Thanks for doing this!
