“Hello? Is that Big Finish? I hear you’ve been having problems with your new website. Have you tried reversing the polarity of the neutron flow?”
My BigFinish back-up folder is already at 16GB, and I’m not even half-way through downloading the 1K audios in my library.
I’ll keep it on my internal SSD cause it’s got 2TB of space anyway, but I’ll copy the whole folder over to my old SSD I used back in college too, just to be safe.
Also, I think several people have had the same idea as me to download their entire product library, cause the site crashed three times when I was downloading the 3DAs saying that too many people were trying to access the site.
Unfortunately, they’re planning on reverting back to the new site once they “iron out the bugs”.
Shame that the bugs are infectious and about seven stories tall, needing a giant steamroller to flatten them out.
I know it would cost them a fair amount of cash upfront, but I think we would all rather them to just hire someone else to make a new site from scratch with actual input from the fans… because the entirety of the new one was just a total mess.
Oh I get it now, that’s what they did - by restoring the old site they have reversed the polarity
There never was a new website. It was just a bad dream….
That’s wishful thinking if there ever was such a thing.
Yoooo, anybody else having this happen when they go to the old app, sign in, and don’t have their purchased audios appear? I guess I’d have to reload the page but it seems to take forever. It probably also has to do with the fact I uninstalled the app when the new one rolled… naively thinking the new things would work but oh well.
Anyways, I’m personally glad to have the old site and app back. They really are just monumentally better.
THIRD DOCTOR: “Precisely, old chap! That’s exactly what I’ve been telling them all along!”
SECOND DOCTOR: “Ahem! I think you’ll find it was me who suggested it first!”
An interesting side effect of reverting to the old website is that those two apology letters no longer exist.
Another fan of the 3DA’s here. Favourite story? Well, that might be Primord, but it’s a difficult choice. Also, The Gulf was a good 'un. Oh, and the recent 6 and 7-parters too.
Oh yes. Good news about the website getting itself back together. I imagine this has been an expensive time for Big Finish. My heart goes out them , to be honest.
Third Doctor Adventures Audios let’s chat 3DAs!
The old site and app now show purchases made from the new site. They’ve migrated the data a lo quicker this time!
I’ve not had that problem myself but I know a number of other people have. Big Finish are aware of it and are working to fix it as a priority, according to Twitter. In fact, for all I know, it may already be fixed.
Tried to log onto the Big Finish website this morning but not recognising my password (it was fine). Anyone else found they need to change passwords again?
Well it should go back to your previous password. My problem was, I had saved my new password in the password manager and removed the old one, so had to reset it again.
Our Mr Haigh-Ellery was very interesting to hear talk at LIWho. He was asked about the website and he said, as they have in emails and whatnot, that the change is necessary because the old stuff is outdated. However he also said that they were planning on getting a lot more fan beta testers in before the next rollout, and that it will probably be about 6 months before we see the change
6 months! Wow! Well at least we know now.
I get that the old site is outdated. Tech evolves so fast. But yeah, they should’ve gotten more testing in before the initial rollout. Six months sounds like a long time, but I’d rather have a working site than another disaster like this.
6 months seems like a long time, unless they are making significant changes due to feedback. I hope they are!
Not sure if this effects anyone here, but I’ve just had this communication from BF:
*We would like to thank our customers who have stuck with us as we dealt with a ‘perfect storm’ of unexpected technical issues with our website and App. As most of you know, the launch of a new website and App at the end of July caused a multitude of problems, which led us to take the step of ‘rolling back’ to our original website and App on August 15th. *
While this ensured that all of our customers could once again access their libraries via their accounts on the website, it unfortunately caused a new problem for many of our most loyal customers – the inability to fully access their large libraries via the App.
*Since the 15th, with very limited resources at hand, we’ve been investigating ways to help those customers regain full access. It hasn’t been until now that we’ve had success, which is why there hasn’t been any news to share. *
*Our tech team now believe they have a ‘behind-the-scenes’ fix which will enable large library customers to do a proper sync-up before their device times-out, but it requires us to take the website off-line at 11pm tonight (UK time). We estimate it will be down for about 10 minutes. *
We ask everyone to avoid refreshing the app immediately. This will help us ensure a smoother experience for all users. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
