I respect the 1000+ words. I don’t agree with all of it, but yeah, there are definitely some plot holes in there; didn’t even think of some of those at first.
I’m very conflicted about this episode and I’m not sure why so I apologize if my comment is a bit incoherent.
I want to start with the main thing that annoyed me : the episode was too darkly lit. I get it for the scenes where the creatures mess with the lights but like the scene when there are all back at UNIT didn’t have to be so dark.
Conrad fooled me. I had not read any spoilers or leaks so I didn’t know about the twist. I didn’t like him and I was a bit bored by their dating and waiting to see when things would start to shift. When he starts acting like an idiot (I didn’t take the cure, I wanted to be brave like the Doctor) my first thought was are they making him another Alan? So I’m glad the twist was a bit different and I did not expect that at all.
I think part of my uneasiness is because the whole fake news, compiracy theories thing makes me very angry in real life and I wanted to punch Conrad.
That’s also why I loved Kate’s reaction. I know what she did was morally bad but I have to admit that I would have probably done something similar. I am aslo tired of them mentionning her father every time but here it was effective I think to have such a despicable character as Conrad disrespect the Brig and even I wanted to wash his mouth with acid ( I like the Brig myself because he’s Kate’s dad, not the other way around).
Regarding the Kate/Ibrahim relationship I am not invested at all. I am team I’d want her with a woman but Ibrahim seems like a nice guy. The main issue here is that she is his commending officer (and he’s also very bland).
I agree with people who mentioned that it made UNIT look week that they would be so badly attacked so easily.
I liked that they went for Ruby actually has PTSD from her time with the Doctor. I don’t think it’s something that’s ever been developped with any of the previous companions when it actually makes sense.
And regarding Mrs Flood, I’m just going with the flow (haha, flood-flow, I’m hilarious) and I stopped trying to figure out who she is, we’ll know soon enough and if I don’t have any expectations I can’t be disappointed!
All in all, I liked the episode but I didn’t love it.
Also Ruby mentioned reconnecting with her dad? Could this have some relevance maybe in the future?
Mixed on this one. Really good stuff with Kate, lovely to see Ruby and family again and the ending scene is fantastic, made me raise my rating by half a star.
But something about the episode just didn’t work for me. the Think Tank I found a bit lame and the whole media scenes about UNIT just didnt do it for me.
I really want to like it, and probably will like it more on a rewatch, but I’m just very Ambivalent about it right now
I got the impression, because we haven’t seen her dad and she didn’t really seem to want to talk about it, that she tried to get in touch and he wasn’t interested.
That would be the most realistic thing really.
Please let’s not him be The Master or something
This was the bit that is stopping me rating it higher. Think Tank just wasn’t believable. They pranked UNIT, got them to come with their helicopter for some rubber suited cosplayers, and that was some kind of big win which made Geneva downgrade their security? Really?
For those that are keeping track, the Doctor didn’t cry in this one.
This was my favourite of the season, and as someone who never had much belief in a UNIT spin off when people were speculating ages ago, this has sold me on one When they tased the shreek my partner said she wished it was torchwood so he could be got by the thing and then he got bitten so lmao
I shall be giving this a watch when it airs, you’ll probably get a 3 word review from me in this thread haha
Well, that and the UK parliament threatening to cut funding to UNIT. Think Tank were dangerous because they fanned existing flames and drove people to fear and hate UNIT.
I think that this was a step back in quality after two amazing weeks. Still a really good episode, and this season keeps being amazing. I loved seeing Ruby and Kate again. I loved the Conrad twist. I think that my problem was just that he was a bit too good. I can’t see how he, with just one inside man, could infiltrate UNIT by the end. But this just made the episode a bit weaker for me. It was still a good episode.
Some parts of this made me think about Spider-Man. The whole exposing and making everyone hate UNIT felt like it.
My preliminary rating is 3.5-4/5, but I think that I need to rewatch it to pin it down.
I get the message of “imagine dictators with this technology” but as UNIT is beyond the government, outside the police (wait is that Torchwood?) what is actually stopping them from going off the rails and trying to take over the Earth?
They aren’t elected. Are we just hoping that whoever succeeds Kate is a good person?
They haven’t had the best track record of hiring good people. First the Harbinger and now this other guy I forgot his name.
They need some accountability. It’s a difficult problem.
That might be why they keep hiring kids. Easy to brainwash them
This person sounds so stupid
Condrad is in the forum??
/j
he got mad at a plot he created himself
Season Three, Episode 1:
Planet where are only Women
By Walt Disney
Yes, because everyone knows that it’s always best to have no morals.
What? What? WHAT???
I mean, seriously? Doctor Who with no morals? Since when? If the comment was sincere then I pity the writer for not understanding anything from the entire history of DW. If not, then it is worthy of nothing more than contempt.
Pity and contempt. All a comment like that deserves.
I love how Walt Disney came back for this masterpiece (I just fixed my comment I can’t believe I wrote Walk instead of Walt)
