The Karvanista box set campaign starts here! I’d quite like Dan to feature too, if I’m honest.
Just listened to this trailer.
I do find Big Finish trailers to be difficult to listen to - they seem to be just random lines, it doesn’t really give you much of an idea what the story is about. Sounds like the Fugitive Doctor is tasked to capture the War Doctor.
I find it so strange that this is still part of Once and Future. It’s been ages. We will see, I guess!
BF trailers are usually pretty pointless as most of the clips don’t work without context. Audio is a terrible medium for them.
While I think this is absolutely true, I’ll still give them a listen if it’s the first release featuring a new-to-BF Doctor or monster etc. Clips out of context don’t offer much in the way of story quality but are a glimpse at the approach to the new acquisition.
Albeit not always an accurate one, but a glimpse. I remember there being a clip of The Innocent released ahead of time and for some reason it really sounded like Hurt was bored, disinterested or just not good at audio and it was briefly concerning. Turned out to be an utterly false impression.
So while I wasn’t expecting to get a solid idea of what to expect from this one, I just wanted to hear that brief snippet of the Fugitive Doctor out of curiosity.
I am inclined to agree and seldom listen to them. That said, I AM curious about the Fugitive Doctor.
Interesting that Call Me Master! sounds like it’s set straight after the regeneration into Dhawan Master?
According to the blurb that’s what it sounds like.
I love the Dhawan Master but I’m starting to wonder how different all of these ‘Master as the lead’ stories can be what with now having Jacobi, Gomez and Roberts having their own series - and Beevers had a few solo outings too.
I haven’t heard Missy’s range, but the Master! and War Master ranges are veeery different from each other
I’ve only listened to Missy some of the War Master and they are sooo different. In e.v.e.r.y. aspect
The story description says that he’s confused about who he is. Sounds like he might have regenerated from an incarnation with memory problems?
Y’all might call it delusional wishful thinking, i call it hard evidence that it’s directly after the Lumiat.
I suppose I partly mean in terms of ‘we know the Master is a baddie but not everyone in the story does until its probably too late’ rather than just in tone.
Missy is also pretty different, it’s got almost a comedy leaning to a lot of it
It’s like a classic farce.
In modern terms, it would be like Deadpool/Gwenpool in Sense and Sensibility, mixed with DW.
Once and Future: Coda - The Final Act is out on the 22nd. Chibs era has started.
It’s only as formuleic as regular Doctor Who is. And, like regular Doctor Who, there’s plenty of vastly different stories that can be told within that premise, alongside regular format breaks and experimentation.
I personally find that Master-centric stories often have more genuine tension. When The Doctor shows up, we know that, whatever happens, they’re eventually going to win. When it’s just The Master, there’s a genuine question of whether the “good guys” will win, or whether the narritive protagonist will, because the answer’s not always the same.
Have just bought! Looking forward to the 22nd!
Yes that’s a good point. Master stories are often a lot more bleak, far less chance of everyone surviving.
So I’m planning getting the 13th Doctor stuff when it comes out.
It will be my first proper foray into the world of Big Finish!
And I’m very excited for more 13 and Yaz!
SFX ran an interview a few months back that got me excited, so yeah, I’m very looking forward to these.
