I’m really hyped! I haven’t looked into these series at all to avoid spoilers, but I’m so excited, even though I’m not a big fan of the Chibnall era. I’m sure Big Finish will do an amazing job.
Is there really spoilers here?
They’re all on the cover
Being cautious.
Will listen to Coda shortly.
I saw this earlier and it’s genuinely a delight, Jo Martin talking about her experience growing up as a fan is great, and the way she describes her incarnation is really nice
An interesting tidbit from the Extended Extras Interviews for Once and Future: Coda:
This was the last story they recorded with Jo Martin, they had already recorded the whole Fugitive Doctor box set!
They recorded the Fugative Boxset in January '23, Coda was recorded in February '23.
It’s crazy how far in advance they record this stuff!
Because it was announced so long ago, it wouldn’t surprise me if they had to delay releasing any stuff on audio. Usually it is 6 months to a year. Tom Baker stuff is recorded years in advance. I think his current series is from 2021/2022.
Trailer on X formerly known as Twitter.
BF trailers are never great but it all sounds quite generic. I guess I’ll go in knowing its not what I really want from this range & try to enjoy it on its own terms.
I was pretty mid on Coda. I’m really hoping her dedicated series wows me. She deserves a proper crack of the whip.
If Coda is anything to go by, Jo Martin’s Doctor on audio is a very exciting prospect. I was always going to be getting her own series anyway but having listened to her in Coda now, I’m even more excited.
As above, I’m wary of how safe it seems to be playing it so I’m not getting my hopes up for the foundation-shaking difference I’d have liked but more Jo Martin can’t be a bad thing.
Nice to have had a story already where she feels more at the forefront. Fugitive of the Judoon of course didn’t have full Fugitive Doctor all the way through, neither did subsequent TV appearances so we only ever got glimpses. We’ve now had a full story where she’s front and centre for the first time and it’s a great appetiser for her own range.
I’m probably not the best placed to judge this having not listened to Once & Future. But apart from the excellent Jo Martin this was pretty messy & uninteresting.
That kinda sums up Once and Future
Having said that, I did only listen to it all once, and need to again.
The crazy thing for me is that I’ve listened to so much this year that when I first listened to Once and Future I had no idea who one of Big Finish’s most famous villains was, so it kinda dampened the excitement for one of the stories. It will be interesting for me to listen now that I have a much bigger sense of the dartboard
