Your Favorite Audio Drama Series

What are your favorite audio drama series? Big Finish or otherwise? Is it a specific portion of the Main Range? Perhaps a DA like 7V with 11 and Valerie or a portion of 8’s run? Or maybe a spin-off like Gallifrey?

I’m interested in seeing your favorites to add to my ever-growing list of audios I need to listen to!

@sircarolyn is here to say Vienna, Lady Christina and Jenny…

So I’ll get in first and say Gallifrey and Countermeasures.

I can hear everyone now saying ‘yes we know you love Gallifrey’ and it is true. I do. Of course I’m going to say that. And yes, you should listen ti it because it’s brilliant!!!

But I also want to say Counter-Measures because that is genuinely excellent and all the character stuff in there is so sublime. Just a really well executed series with only a couple of duds which aren’t even that bad

Also! If we’re talking non Who, I have to bang the Omega Factor drum - the TV series might be… fine, but the audios are really special. Really spooky, really compelling. If you like your SF on the supernatural gothic side I can highly reccommend them

Eleven & Valarie. A pre-planned season of the show that feels right at home between Series 7a and 7b. Well written and consistently well acted.

For the fun side of stuff, I really enjoy the Missy series. It’s not groundbreaking, but it is fun.

I’ve not listened to a whole lot, but of what I have it’s gotta be War Doctor. As expected John Hurt is just incredible and the series did a lot to round out the character and expand on some of the themes with him from DotD and just make me really like the incarnation where before I didn’t have enough of him to particularly care.

Though I think despite it not being out for another 10 months that I could also confidently say 13DA…

I still have a lot to listen to of it but the War Master range stands out for me so far, carried by a pitch perfect performance by Jacobi and a real embrace of what makes the villain fun.

11 and Valarie. It’s a great set of audios and the acting is amazing.

@sircarolyn might be a wee bit predictable with Gallifrey here , but by Condo’s missing arm it is every bit as good as that!!! :sunglasses:
Everyone and their aunt should listen to Gallifrey!

Lately I’ve been listening to Jago and Litefoot, and Vienna, both of which are super enjoyable.

And I have to beat the drum for Master! with Eric Roberts’ Master, I’ve only listened to the first season so far, but we are already nearing favourite audio Master territory! :sunglasses:
(Nearing mind, Geoffrey Beevers is staggeringly good )

The ‘Lady Christina’ stuff is something I have always avoided. Is it worth my time? Someone please sell this to me. What is there to enjoy/admire? How does it add to what we already have?

I’m a Torchwood Main Range gal through and through

It’s no secret that Torchwood is my favourite part of the Whoniverse, and the main range gives plenty new stories, both with familiar faces and not, that expands it in just a really fun way. The Story Continues is also up there, especially for the new characters (Orr and Colchester my beloveds)

I don’t feel like I’ve listened to enough yet to say what is my favourite.

It’s not secret that I love River Song, and I’ve really enjoyed the Eighth Doctor audios, plus 11 and Valarie is amazing but aside from that I have a lot of the highly rated stories ahead of me, which is exciting!

Looking forward to more War Master, The War Doctor Begins, Gallifrey, Vienna, and more!

I’ve dabbled in Lady Christina and Jenny, I enjoy leading ladies, but it was a long time ago and due a re-listen before I can give me honest opinions.

Lady Christina’s stuff is very middle of the road - nothing terrible, nothing great and based around a fairly run of the mill character who I’m not sure was ever top of anyone’s list for a solo spin off.

(I mean, I’m still waiting for the adventures of Delta and Billy in space).

11 and Valarie for me with The War Master a very close second! If only the third War Master set didn’t stink!

Wow! OK, that DOES sound interesting! Hmmm, might have to add to my wishlist!

Thank you @deltaandthebannermen. This is kind of what I expected and the primary reason I’ve avoided these releases so far. So very much content, so I try to limit myself to releases I’m more curious about or that I’ve heard very positive reports about.

For me it’s The Fifth Doctor Adventures range. Predictable, maybe, but since the relaunch into box sets I’ve found the range to be consistently some of the highest quality Doctor Who going. Next year sounds like it’s going to be an interesting one too.

Going into spinoff territory though, it’s been a while since I caught a new War Master set but when I was listening to the range I adored it. I wasn’t sure about a Master spinoff, but more often than not it’s absolutely brilliant, with an incredible lead actor and stories that showcase the Master’s cruelty to a deeper level than you typically do in Doctor Who stories. I appreciate the occasional showdowns with the Doctor too, they’re far and few between enough to feel special. Top recommendations from the range (as far as I have access to!) are Master of Callous and Hearts of Darkness. If you like your Daleks you can’t go wrong with Anti-Genesis either.

‘Master of Callous’ is on my list. Soon. I await with eager anticipation.
