Got it in three. This is a fun idea.
three–i don’t remember the moffat christmas specials very well at all. was sitting there like “it’s got to be the narnia one, right??” and then spent too long trying to remember when the narnia one was aired and what it was called, to the point where i was sitting there like “there WAS a narnia one, RIGHT??” i really liked reading the reviews, very fun way to do a whodle.
In one. SO TRUE REVIEWER IN SCREENSHOT ONE. SO TRUE.
In two! The mention of loads of negative reviews means I totally should have got it in one though– it’s definitely the most reviled Christmas special. And unfairly! Though truth be told I don’t remember much from it except the “because they are going to be sad later” bit, which is, of course, gutting. LOVED this gimmick!
Got it in three. I suspected guessing a Chibnall one for 1 was a trap, but I did it anyways. Talking about losing Nicholas Courtney and Elizabeth Sladen was enough for me, though.
Got it in one! oh yeah!!
I knew that an oft-maligned Christmas Special was bound to be that one.
A fun new format! Just should have used reviews from TARDIS Guide, then it would be perfect /j
I got it in one on a guess. A neat idea, and the experimenting is cool and much appreciated, but if I’m being honest and providing feedback, I would say I definitely prefer Whodles to be based purely on something from within the episode itself, which would be enough to get the episode entirely from the information you can get from any one of the clues, depending on how well you know the details of the episode. For example, the first clue in this one doesn’t have enough concrete information to specifically narrow it to a single episode, all you can see is that it’s A Christmas special from a male writer, meaning it could be many different episodes. Using audience reactions is quite subjective and one may not know an episode is commonly maligned or praised, and could have any number of opinions of their own which could influence their choice of a guess as well.
I would argue the fact that the first review quotes happy (tears) from the episode is a giveaway, but I also do agree that though this was a fun one off, it could be tricky on other episodes that people have less strong opinions about
Hadn’t considered that that could be a direct reference, but now that you mention it…
YES! I also got in one
In one! Knew it had to be Moffat, because Chibnall didn’t have Christmas specials, and also knew that there aren’t a lot of Moffat specials left, with this one still waiting for its turn.
A fun idea, this!
In one for me. A review that caught the vibe of the story. Still didn’t expect to be right first time with this though!
I really liked this one. I’m probably better at this game like this than with the episode snippets after all the hours I’ve scrolled Letterboxd and such… Still took me four though lol.
In one! there really aren’t any other Christmas specials that go from sad to happy like that, and the description of the writer did make me think of Moffat. I really have to rewatch this one, I feel like I didn’t find it that good the first time but might appreciate it much more now
In two! The reviews are a great idea!
I got it in two. I was quite pleased with that.
Got it in one! There’s no way that was describing anything other than the most unfairly hated Christmas special of them all.
In one. Don’t agree with the reviewer but totally saw how their description matched
Got it in one!
