What's Made or Not Made Your Day?

The more I look at the series these days, the less stuff I’d let pass in the series that I think I was giving a pass when I first read it, really. At that, I really only read the 6th + 7th Harry Potter books for completeness.

Yeah, we should’ve known something was up when she started making all the lore tweets

The disappearing the poop away one is incredible at least

Realistically, the depiction of the house elves and how Hermione was treated for standing up for their rights was sus, and the fact that she kept depicting the villains as fat and/or ugly was kinda a problem, too…

I like all the jokes abour her naming an Irish character Potatofamine McCarbomb

And the Goblins being a not very subtle Jewish stereotype

Yeah, naming was a problem, too, for multiple characters…

I’m so glad I didn’t grow up with it, I managed to luckily avoid it with my Who tunnel vision. Nobody I was friends with really watched it either which helped. I have since seen them in my teens and didn’t think much of them. I hate how many stores there are like, there’s one in Edinburgh and one in the airport and its so  whenever I used to see them living there.

I did grow up with it but thankfully was never a big fan so was able to just remove it from my life easily

I’m feeling very worried about my oldest dog at the moment. He’s quite old, he’s 14 and this morning he’s been really struggling to walk. He nearly fell down the stairs and when I took him outside, he struggled to make it to the grass verge and had a lot of issues getting back in the house.

It’s reminding me of what happened with my first dog, where it turned out to be arthritis in his paws and eventually they just gave up completely. I just feel like history is repeating itself, because when we lost my first dog, we had one of our cats get run over, and this time our eldest cat got run over a few weeks ago. The only difference is she didn’t survive, whereas the cat that got knocked down before did but needed urgent medical attention from the vet’s.

If the Hogwarts Legacy discourse revealed anything, it’s that people will happily enjoy Harry Potter without caring she still owns the IP. You had transphobes buying it to spite “woke people” (the game has a trans character), and then you had progressives buying it because the company said they’re not affiliated. I’m still surprised it sold so well.

I’m all for cats being let out, and had one of my own killed by a car…

But have you always lived in the same area? It sounds like there’s a busy road nearbye… If one of my other kitties got killed by a car, I think I’d have a breakdown and take a longer time to recover (and then in future factor in where I live as to whether they get let out or not). It also made me despise the idea of ever driving…

Ofc with dogs it’s a bit different because you normally supervise them rather than let them free.
Hoping the best for your puppy, and glad your kitty did survive…

One of the more frustrating facts of life is a lot of what JK says is simply background noise for most people. With all the insane shit celebrities say on a daily basis I’m not surprised that people would just tune them out and get on with their lives, unfortunately that is a privilege the marginalised communities that JK targets don’t get.

Just met my best friend and her new baby. We had a lovely talk over a good lunch (meatballs, of course).
