What Will Happen To The Cybermen Now?

(I’ve never seen Star Trek either :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

I shall not argue with that. My voice doesn’t have quite the timbre of Tom’s (does anyone’s?) but it does boom somewhat, and carry. I’m a little notorious when lecturing (to the poor souls in the offices upstairs or the lecturers in the classroom / lecture theatres to either side).

Did make me smile when a student once told me that she typically struggled with loud male voices and that mine was especially… resonant. She also told me to never ever change.

I agree that they’ll probably come back in a totally unrelated context with the flimsiest of explanations for what happened, but also–if any writer wants to touch Gallifrey again, they’ll presumably have to explain why the Time Lords have been un-Cybered… I don’t think we’ll see that anytime soon but eventually someone is bound to go there.

For individual Timelords, they can say they were off Gallifrey at the time. It’s mostly if you want to use actual Gallifrey.

(Though I’d take the route of having “New Gallifrey”, a colony populated with survivors, if I was doing it…)

yes, that’s what i mean, if they want to bring back gallifrey and the time lords as a whole they will need to explain why gallifrey is normal again.

a “new gallifrey” plot could be interesting although if that were going to happen i would want whoever was writing it to be taking the colonialist/imperialist themes of the timeless child plot to heart…

I doubt the Cyber Masters will be back. I loved the design, which looked wonderfully bonkers, but they make no real sense. Cybermen can replace all parts when they break, so have absolutely no need for the power of regeneration, not to mention that dead Timelords can’t regenerate anyway. As with many DW plots, they don’t bear too much thinking about. I’d imagine that the next cyber story will either be yet another origin story or will just turn up as cybermen unannounced with no additional explanation.

Maybe they really are bringing Gallifrey back to the screen and that’s why the Gallifrey Audios have been delayed… (I know I’m delusional, but I can dream)

I’ll happily be delusional with you on this one.

Yes, exactly. I love that idiot far too much.
(Never thought I would say that when I was first listening to the Gallifrey audios.)

It’s the way it goes for everyone, you listen to s1 and you’re like why does everyone love this dickhead??? and then it hits s3 and you just get it and then you love him forever

(sorry for derailing this haha)

Yes, and that without him having that much of a character ark. He just grows on you like some kind of fungus or something.

I’m assuming that at some point we’ll get the Weeping Cybermen. Or maybe an episode set at a holiday camp called Delta and the Cybermen. Or we’ll encounter the original rulers of Mondas, the Cyberlurians. Sigh. Brr…

You forgot that when Jemma Redgrave eventually leaves Doctor Who,that Kate Stewart is turned into a Cyberman who then gets a spinoff with the CyberBrig and Handles…

I used to have this fanfic idea of the next big evolutionary step for the Cybermen, one that would allow them to finally conquer the entire universe by mixing with the Doctor’s greatest enemies.

They are called Cyberleks, a mix between Cybermen and Daleks, and the ultimate killing machine!

But what would they do against my army of genetically mutated Ptings merged with the final stage of evolution of the people of Solos, riding Vortisaurs? Muhahaha!

That would result in a universe-shattering event called the Flux!

No wait… that’s already been done before, never mind!
