What is everyone's plans for watching the new episodes next week?

Loreen deserved it, but Sweden already has 7 victories and Finland almost had 2, so we could’ve had this one (kidding, of course, I love Sweden ).

Here I complimented you on being creative and you didn’t even go all in! I am disappointed now :joy:

It drops at 02:00 over here. Finland is one hour ahead of both Sweden and Denmark

I move that we next year have the inaugural “Annual TARDIS Guide: Doctor Who/Eurovision Crossover Convention”

Any in favour?

That’s a new thing learned today👍

Denmark is sitting pretty with a total of three Eurovision wins :tada:

…glowers from the UK corner…

Most of the 5 UK wins are pretty epic though!

Edit: Though it’s been a while :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To be fair, the UK has sent some all-time Eurovision classics and you have like a million second-place finishes  and Sam Ryder two years ago proved you still have the chops to do well if you take it seriously

I often love the Danish entries by the way. Fly on the Wings of Love is one of my favourite winning songs and I played Øve Os På Hinanden non-stop in the summer of 2021. I was heartbroken when it didn’t qualify for the final!

Anyway, the Doctor Who and Eurovision watch party convention thingy is pretty much a must now!

Sam Ryder was robbed…

“Fly on the Wings of Love” is even better in Danish - put probably wouldn’t have had a chance if it wasn’t translated.

In Danish it is “Smuk som et stjerneskud” - “Beautiful as a Shooting Star”.
Niels and Noller FTW!

I’ve never heard it in Danish, I’ll have to give it a listen!

I’ll be completely honest, I completely forgot the new Series begins next week.

I personally feel like I’ve lost interest in the TV series - nothing against RTD or Gatwa - I just find that, nowadays, I’m more excited for the expanded universe stuff.

I’ll still probably watch the stories on broadcast though. I really wanna watch ‘The Devil’s Chord’.

A few people here feel like that, which makes me sad, but then again there’s so much Doctor Who that everyone can be fans in different ways.

I am so excited for Ncuti!!

I’ll be watching at midnight, until half one in the morning with my partner. We then have a watch party with friends for the BBC1 broadcast. We will be dressed up for Eurovision!!

Going to my friend’s house and watching them as soon as they come out (I live in Australia so we get them 9am)

plenty of teenagers are going to be awake at 1:40 am on a friday night whether it’s for doctor who or not… at least, i habitually stayed up much later as a teen, and most of my friends did too. i don’t think rtd was that serious but i also don’t think it’s all that horrifying to say kids can stay up late on a friday night to watch a tv show they like.

i always watch new episodes on a stream with my friends when they drop so i’ll be doing that! nowadays i don’t think i’d be staying up until 2 am for it but where i am they’ll drop at 7 pm, which is kind of perfect. i’m in exam season too but i’m taking this as a chance for a bit of a break between final papers.

I would say there is a massive difference between “kids” and “teenagers”. I can’t really imagine people being that concerned with teenagers staying up - that a part of the joint lived experience of growing up.

The amount of times I as a teenager went to bed at 4 or 5 in the morning because I was busy playing Warhammer (that’s right, I knew how to party) cannot be described with word.

But letting my nine year old stay up till 02.00 to watch Tele? There will be consequences for his wellbeing (and that of everyone around him) the next day(s).

I mean in general even for a young-ish kid I think it’s fine if they stay up late on a Friday night every so often. I went to plenty of midnight movie showings or release parties as a kid from as young as like 6 or so and I was maybe a bit tired the next day but nothing worse than that. Granted, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for all 7 weeks of episodes, but I don’t think there’s any real harm in a kid staying up for the midnight drop of the premiere if they really want to.

Sure there is an individual aspect to it, different kids will react differently. Some kids simply sleep longer the next day with no ill effect, some will have a degree of sleep deprivation.

I can only say that having worked with kids of different ages (0,5 ~ 13 years) both in kindergarten and as a teaches assistent while also being a parent to three kids (5, 9 & 12) who all have either ADHD or Autism - there is a definite surplus of kids who suffer ill effects from staying up much later than usual. And while the kid may feel fine it is very often mostly obvious for their surroundings that there is an issue however slight.

My kids stay up past Midnight on New Year’s Eve but my wife and I make sure not to have a busy schedule the next couple of days from lived experience.

100% in agreement with you here @BillFiler - as a teacher, the effects of staying up till late hours because of unregulated screens is a real issue.

We rarely let our two stay up later than 9pm - the exceptions being NYE and Eurovision. But we know we’ll suffer for it the next day. Note my two are 12 and 15 so not even young kids.

Also, my eldest has mild autism so another thing that we have in common Bill!

Yeah definitely will vary from kid to kid, and in case it wasn’t clear I was definitely not saying you specifically should let your kid stay up because I say so, just that in general the occasional late night isn’t gonna be a major problem and those late night events can be a lot of fun and make great memories!

Honestly, if I were still in the UK, I wouldn’t stay up til midnight, my own bedtime is 9pm, never mind kids
