What do you call the Master's incarnations?

It all depends on who I’m talking to. If I’m discussing the character with someone then I probably will use the actor’s name as not everyone is as familiar with Who lore as I might be. For example, I have a friend who is familiar with the ‘Ainley Master’. To my knowledge he’s never seen Keeper of Traken so my calling him the Tremas Master would mean nothing to them.

I do the same with Doctors, depending on who I talking to. My wife knows who Colin Baker but if I say I’ve just listened to a Sixth Doctor audio she just says “Which one’s that?”

I don’t think I’d ever paid attention to this before…

Not sure some of those work as well as you might think they do…

To be fair its all from TARDIS Wiki so blame them…

There’s the added confusion that in some stories ‘The Crispy Master’ comes after Bruce’s body….

It’s rather amazing when I do a search for “I am the Master and you will obey”, and it comes up with a bunch of pages with biblical quotes about obeying the Master. Was he involved in writing the Bible?

They’ll have to decide on some sort of ‘official name’ when the Eric Robert’s dark Galifrey set comes out.

Delgado Master
Decayed Master
Tremas Master
Eric Roberts Master
Big Finish Master
War Master
Saxon Master
Missy
Spy Master

A mix of official names, fan names, and just the only way I can really think of baldy at the moment.

I usually use last name, except for Beevers and Jacobi. Where I use Crispy and War respectively.

There’s only one possible answer: the Tipple Master

Depending on the context, I’ll use the actor’s name (Delgado, Simm, etc) or one of the in-universe/fan-created terms…

Memories of being on LiveJournal in the 2000s and tagging posts with stuff like “Crispy!Master” or “Simm!Master”

If we get another woman, I really hope they don’t just use “Missy” again. That feels like it belongs to Gomez. When Dark Water first aired, I was a little miffed at “couldn’t keep calling myself the Master” because, uh, yeah you could’ve. But I grew to love Missy as that incarnation’s nickname / preferred name, and now I quite like the idea that - every now and again - an incarnation will pick their own name to go by, in between others reverting to “the Master”

I call them whatever doesn’t get me killed. Or worse, a root canal.

I wouldn’t mind the next female Master going by The Mistress but definitely agree they shouldn’t go by Missy. Though Master is also fine anyway, I see it as pretty gender neutral

Usually I go with “Actor name + Master” unless the incarnation in question has a very distinct trait to them. Like Missy or Lumiat for example.
(also, idk why, but when I think of them in english I tend to use only the last name + Master, but in portuguese I use full name + Master… go figure)

Trying to go kinda in order

  • Milo Master / Child Master
  • Dreyfus Master
  • Delgado Master
  • Pratt Master / Crispy Master
  • Beevers Master / Rotten Master
  • Ainley Master
  • Eric Roberts Master
  • Macqueen Master / Bald Master
  • Demonic Little Kid Master (the one from Titan Comics)
  • War Master
  • Simm Master
  • Missy
  • Lumiat
  • Sacha Master
  • Gattis Master / Sympathy Master
  • Pryce Master / Curse Master
  • Shalka Master

I get where you’re coming from, here. I feel similar. Doesn’t bother me hugely, but it niggles. I guess it’s because that is just a guise he adopted in one story. It would be a bit like calling the Delgado Master “The Thascalos Master”. He"s so much more than that.
