Watching Tomb of the Cybermen (which is just as fantastic as it always is) but also confronted with thinking about the large number of Black (specifically men) characters who are made cyborgs in media and thinking just how problematic that trope is…

May I ask what your favourite 4th Doctor is? And don’t worry about not having watched the earlier Doctors! That’s the beauty of Classic Who, that one can skip around a bit and watch what they feel like, then fill in the gaps later. And Tom is a great place to start, since Classic Who was arguably at its peak during his (early) tenure.

Watched the recon of Episode 1 of The Highlanders last night. I really hate how Polly is written as an absolute cow towards Kirsty. It seems so out of character.

Been watching through the SJAs, and since I’m nearing the end I’m going right back to the start with The Time Warrior

In between continuing Three’s era, I’ve been making my way through new Who episodes I haven’t rewatched in a while to rate them better and finally get some badges for Doctors I’ve completed long before learning of this website.

My favourite episodes would probably be Destiny of the Daleks or City of Death, I have a lot of nostalgia for them and Douglas Adams is my favourite writer of all time, ignoring the flaws of Destiny they’re both fun episodes and the fourth Doctor and Romana II have amazing chemistry in these episodes, and are by far my favourite TARDIS team.

I’ve been jumping around the classic collection blu rays I have. Mind of Evil, Robot, Attack of the Cybermen, Battlefield, and now 3/4 through The Leisure Hive. It’s really interesting jumping around right now. It’s my first time watching Battlefield and The Leisure Hive.

I loved Battlefield! Mind of Evil was just as good as I remembered it. Robot was alright; Tom is the best part of that story. Attack of the Cybermen had more going for it than I remembered, but it’s still not one of my favs. The Leisure Hive has a somewhat poor reputation but I’m finding it pretty interesting. The way the incidental music is used in the story is quite different from other stories in 4’s era! Excited to see how it resolves in Part 4.

Next up will be either Meglos or Ghost Light. I’m interested in exploring season 18 and 26 more and filling in a few gaps from my watch.

Who watched Young Sheldon last night? Another Doctor Who reference that is funny. Will not ruin it for anyone. I will say Sheldon is a doctor but you have to watch to see who.

Didn’t see the full episode, but did just happen to catch that one scene. And the choice of Doctor was a bit surprising, but makes sense given when approximately the show is set.

I am currently watching the second episode of The Time Monster (why did my phone suggest this emoji :poop: when I wrote the name of that story? That’s slander that is!)

I am dedicated to seeing the positives of this story - I think I have been a bit influenced by the opinion of others as I remember enjoying it when I first watched it 10 years ago - or they could be right and this is an epic ****show of proportions.

Remembered highlight: The budding romance between Roger Delgado and Hammer Horror royalty Ingrid Pitt.
Remembered low point: The extreme stereotypical nature of Doctor Ruth Ingram

Come Kronos!!

I’m currently on The Crusade. I’ve taken a couple of weeks off from watching/listening to Doctor Who.

Right finished The Time Monster once more.
Everything people have been saying about this story is a lie - it is a delight and no more convoluted than most Master stories.

Two things that are ridiculous though:

  • The Time Flow Analogue (a wine bottle with bits on top and tealeaves, what manner of science is that? Though it was nice that The Doctor said that they used tricks like that to tease each other at the Academy)
  • The Time Path Indicator… No two ways about it: That’s a penis!

Shoddy effects have been mentioned several times, but honestly try watching The Christmas Invasion again - those effects have aged worse.

And The Master and Benton yelling “That’s the oldest trick in the Book” at each other is peak UNIT family energy

The Daisyest Daisy, Time ram, TARDIS within TARDIS, sassy King Dalios and The Master and Queen Gallia being infatuated by each other - what’s not to like?

What’s not to like?

I’ll tell you what’s not to like…

(All said, I know I’ll rewatch it someday and probably have a fun time whilst doing so).

I will agree from your review that Hippias might be the worst acting there has ever been in a Doctor Who story. But other than that I think I stand by my mini-review above - it’s not a good story by any stretch, but there are a ton of fun and poignant character moments scattered throughout. There are plenty of worse stories around…

aww i love the time flow analogue!! it really makes the doctor seem like an alien… he comes from a society whose science is so far beyond ours they can alter the world with just the interactions between a few pieces of garbage… its technology as magic that feels very of a kind with all the block transfer stuff that comes up later in Logopolis and i think that part of the world building is so charming

Hippias is a great example of “Bad Acting That Is Plainly Bad” (whereas Zraoff is “Bad Acting That Is So Bad It’s Good”). And The Time Monster is bad, but still hilarious, which makes it entertaining.
