Absolutely - both ways have their benefits. I also love the fact I can just stick a random story on and it’s self-contained. Not many series you can say that about.
Funny thing is I can say that about Star Trek Voyager… but it’s also one of the things I complain about with it, because it’s not uncommon to have episodes that should have had consequences, but the show resets by next episode (like Voyager’s Doctor getting reset and his memory wiped, and then being fine next episode).
I’ve been watching it in order anyways, though…
I’m currently watching Underworld as part of my Classic Who re-watch marathon, and it’s just as bad as the previous two times I’ve watched it. This is one of the rare occasions in Classic Who where I would never watch this story again unless I’m doing a full re-watch, like now. I like some of the cast and ideas, but the execution is terrible, the pacing is slow even for a four-parter, and the story is so muddled and uninspired, not to mention the terrible villains and plenty of hammy acting.
I’ll be watching The End of the World for the TV club after this; it’s my palette cleanser
Just watch an episode of K9 before watching Underworld, it’ll seem like bleedin’ Heaven Sent in comparison
I rewatched Underworld recently and can’t disagree with your assessment - it really is a bit naff.
That said I will rewatch someday because I always enjoy rewatching Who, good, bad or in the middle.
Yup, the beauty of DW is that there are many gems, a bucketload of average and forgettable stories, and even many bad and awkward ones, but it’s always wonderful to experience every aspect of the franchise, even if it means having to torture oneself for 100 minutes straight!
I’ll watch it when I get there on a rewatch or if a Tales of the TARDIS with Leela and K9 (Mark 1) comes along…
I’ve been watching a lot of Classic Who on Tubi. I started with the “New to Who” collection to get a taste of each Doctor and I’ve been slowly going through chronologically since then. (Or sometimes going to the Live TV marathon channel, to get a random episode.) Just finished the First Doctor, which is very exciting! Two and Jamie are a close friend’s favorite Doctor & Companion pair, so it’ll be nice to have context.
Watching Season 1 of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender. Just finished episode 5.
Second is fantastic! Hope you enjoy it!
A pot of tea, hobnobs & Horror of Fang Rock with the new FX. One of my favourite stories, in an uneven season.
Watching The Faceless Ones and Evil of the Daleks animated. A few minutes into The Faceless Ones, the models certainly need some work but it’s quite good for what it is.
I was watching Frontier in Space with a friend. It’s really reminding me how much I love the interactions between Jo and the Master.
Watched Episode 1 of Day of the Daleks during lunch.
I have been working my way through Classic Who since the beginning of the year since I have not watched it yet. Currently I’m on The Faceless Ones part 2 and so far I really enjoy the setting. I think an airport is a really cool setting for a story.
Just finished wrestlemania
The Faceless Ones is an underrated story in my opinion (perhaps because it’s missing). The animated reconstruction is really good!
I gave it 5/5 and a . The animation is good and the story is fun.
Oh wow, 5/5? I haven’t seen the animation, just the telesnaps, so I’ve never properly rated this one.
I was working my way through the fourth doctor and am proud to say after seven weeks I’ve finished his run! From here I’ve decided to continue with the rest of 80s who and am up to four to doomsday (I feel kind of bad that I’ve skipped doctors 1-3 but i’ll definitely get to them eventually)
