Just watched The Lost Boy and what an amazing finale! I’m fully hooked on SJA now. This and WHTSJ show that this show is capable of genuinely incredible things.
That cliffhanger is so outstanding.

Watched part 1 of The Last Sontaran during my lunch break, and really enjoyed seeing Sarah’s reaction. That being said, it’s a bit weird how it frames the Sontaran being the baddie as a mystery for most of it despite it being the title?
I remember being unsettled for that whole episode by how like Alan Rickman the scientist guy is. I kept having to remind myself it wasn’t Alan Rickman!
Tbf that’s an extremely Doctor Who thing to do lol
oh it is and it’s something I always find charming but it’s still like “??? fellas come on” lol
Watched The Empty Child the other day, and then watched Weird: The Al Yankovic Story last night. It was enjoyable, but nothing outstanding.
Watched The Green Death today, quite a wonderful story, and a beautiful goodbye to Jo. I’ll miss her
Eldrad must live!
Last Sontaran Part 2 made me like Maria’s mum!! Miracles can happen!!
Interested to see where the show goes from here now that Maria has left! I’ve heard of Rani but know nothing about her
For me, Season 2 seemed to focus more on teenagers as the main target audience, whereas Season 1 always made sure that younger audiences also had what I’d call identification points. I thought Season 1 was aimed more at younger audiences.
As written in the Sarah Jane Adventures appreciation thread thread, I was in my thirties when I first watched it, so my question is not meant to go the “it’s for children” route (in my opinion, it’s for all ages and I very much enjoyed the show).
But I am curious: Do you also notice a shift in the way the stories are presented? Or ist it just my imagination?
Definitely noticed a tonal and general maturity shift from Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane onwards, for sure! It’s a big part of why I’m now vibing better with the show.
I love Rani! She’s amazing
Looking forward to rewatching “The Curse of Fenric” tomorrow night (eps 1 and 2) i always love this one. It’ll be headphones on, glass of single malt and curtains drawn. Immersive audio visual experience for a truly great story. My village church reminds me very strongly of the church in “Fenric”, and I can see it from my windows. Evocative.
Me too! My kids were exactly the right age. SJA was very clever TV as, you rightly note, it bridged all ages. It may have been a kids show but it knew how to broaden appeal and didn’t talk down to its audience. There are many other shows (often more “prestigious”) that could learn a thing or two from SJA.
Continuing to really enjoy it! Rani is delightful. I liked Maria, but Rani has more personality in one hour than Maria had in a whole season lmao. Liz Sladen of course continues to be incredible too. But otherwise, Day of the Clown is definitely one of the weaker episodes so far, and does feel a tad more kiddie compared to the past 3 episodes. Still, having a good time overall!
I think you mean than in a whole season : P
Yeah that was a dire typo LMAO, thank you for understanding what my tired fingers wrote haha
Rani adds something to proceedings, doesn’t she? Yes I agree about “Day of the Clown”. It doesn’t really do anything for me either, but Rani quickley establishes herself as an important part of the team and really adds to the dynamic. Great stuff ahead for you!
This is kind of what I wanted to point out too lol but didn’t want to be harsh on Maria! I’m glad you said it
For a time, I was of the same opinion. However, during my last rewatch, “Eye of the Gorgon” and “Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane” made me change my mind. Now, I do think both are on par, but the character of Maria (and her family) is just more tuned for younger audiences, so Rani clicks better.
