So I rewatched Joy to The World yesterday and I feel this story is so underrated and deserves so much love,I love the Anita stuff so much and the first 30 minutes are great,I agree that after Anita stuff it kind of goes nowhere and I wasnt much a fan of that ending they did,but the dark doctor scene is what I want more from Ncuti especially if those rumors that hes leaving are true, may go back to rewatch Series 5 or 6 I’ll see but thats mostly what I’m doing rn.
A rewatch of The Sun Makers, still not one that I will ever really enjoy. A few fun Bakerisms aside its dull, too talky & basically just nonsense about paying taxes. Plus The Collector character feels like he’s playing into antisemitic tropes. Not a good look.
My most niche Doctor Who headcanon is that the little girl Clara from Jago & Litefoot series 3 episode 2 The Man at the End of the Garden is a Clara splinter. Though the j&l story is from mid 2011, quite a bit before even Oswin came on screen.
Well one kept watching, got to Rosa, then gave up.
It was clear none of us were really enjoying it and there’d not really be a point in watching the rest of it.
Oh a shame, I really like that one. Probably only beaten by Fang Rock that season.
I’m some way into The Androids of Tara. Woodbeast aside, I think this is a cracking tale, beautifully directed in some very nice locations. I’d forgotten how stunningly aloof Mary Tamm’s Romana was, and her interactions with the casual and careless Fourth Doctor remain a delight. Count Grendel is invested with far more depth, charm and honour than the usual ‘villain of the week’ and it’s a shame that Peter Jeffrey only appeared in one other Doctor Who story. He was a class act.
“Do you mind not standing on my chest? My hat’s on fire.”
By now, we’re knee-deep in Tom Baker ad-libs, and they’re very enjoyable. K-9 is also used well, his final appearance in episode four being a particular highlight.
Of the Key To Time series, it is this story and The Pirate Planet I revisit most of all, and I never regret it!
I’m more of a Ribos Operation guy myself.
I love it now, but as a kid, I found it too talky and stagey. I still think that it doesn’t offer a lot for young viewers - but as I say, I really like it now!
Oh but there are so many good episodes. Demons of the Punjab. Spyfall, The Witchfinders, The Haunting of Villa Diodati, a sizeable chunk of Flux, Eve of the Daleks.
The entire era is just as good as anything that came before or since and in some ways is purer Doctor Who in a classic sense than a lot of the modern series. (DofP is basically a modern version of The Massacre).
As for Flux,Halloween Apocalypse,War of Sontarans and Village of Angels are all great,Once Upon Time is mediocre and I hate vanquishers and survivors of flux.
The 13th Doc era is peak Who for me.
Honestly The Halloween Apocalypse is pure chaos and I live for it. Once you’ve seen the entirety of Flux and rewatch it hits WAY harder. I love Flux!!!
Yep, Flux is extraordinary stuff. I love the tumbling chaos of it all, and I still think War of the Sontarans is the most impressive TV Sontarans story ever told. I love Swarm and Azure, Vinder, The Serpent, Dan and all the characters thrown into the mix.
A Doctor Who story recorded during COVID restrictions had no right to be this brilliant, and it’s great to hear so much praise for it here.
Vender, Karvanista and Jericho are some of Who’s best characters.
Watched The Daleks Chase Walter the Worm, truly peak fiction.
Watched The Daleks Chase Walter the Worm.
Want those 10 seconds of my life back.
“Leave the girl, it’s the man I want!”
Time or the Rani
Nope it’s Time and the Rani.
I won’t choose between the two
