“A town called Mercy” is on now.
Never really paid it much attention. Let’s see if I reassess a bit this time.

Whoops, how clumsy of me. Let me pick this review up off the floor…
I fell asleep, so had to watch the rest of Downtime this morning. Well I’ve seen worse episodes of the original show.
“The computer internet is virally infested.”
“Alt 4, hold it down!”
“Go back to hell you’re not wanted here.”
Courtney is great of course as is Sladen, they just should have had more scenes together. & I want a New World University sweater & baseball cap please.
Kate’s 5 year old son Gordy should have had a moustache just like his Grandad. & it never be acknowledged by the characters.
Downtime is an odd beast - some of it is really well done and acted and some of it…isn’t. The vice principal of the university is decidely odd in the performance he decides to give and I don’t really know why Sladen is there (the story would work perfectly well without her). The ‘Chillys’ (such a stupid name) are horrifically 90s in their sweaters and baseball caps. But the Yeti look good, some of the special effects are pretty good and Courtney, Watling Senior and Junior, Richardson and Cressman are all good.
Finished the episode, and your review
I basically agree with all that you write, but my rating is half a lower than you.
Also, are there different versions of this story because that barmaid looked nothing like Alex Kingston
Like the bit with the Doctor speaking “Baby” in Closing Time the bit with the Doctor speaking “horse” gets real old, real fast.
Just started “The Power of Three”
Kate’s coming
Hey I have some of the same IKEA coffee mugs as the Pond Williams’
And I return everyone to my and @shauny’s disbelief at how people manage to fit all this Who in. Three episodes in a row - go and do something useful. Do your boys even know who you are any more?
It’s the fourth episode I got going now actually
And well today I’ve got a fever so I’m horizontal on a sofa of slightly less than reasonable comfort with a bucket …
Now I want you to recreate the scene with the same mugs!
It’s weird how often my fellow Scandinavians are at home “sick.”. I’m starting to believe it’s just an excuse for them not to have to go to work or spend time with their family because all they want to do is watch/listen to more Who…
Both my daughters are also home… Vabruari you know!
Aaah, you needed to get one more of those in before we get to March
“The Power of Three” was much better than I remembered it being.
I kind of remembered it falling apart halfway, but it is really only one scene on the Shakri ship that’s a bit dodgy. And it lasts less than two minutes.
Go team “Power of Three”
“The Angels take Manhattan”'s up next.
Today I’ve enjoyed 7A more than I previously have so I am hoping I’ll find more to enjoy about that one… Never been a fan.
I’m so close to more Clara
I agree. It is almost perfect. It just needed some work with the ending.
It might be my favourite episode written by CC.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of Angels Take Manhattan either. It’s just one long exit scene for Amy and Rory.
Oops, dropped another review, do excuse me…
I think it’s one that has some good scenes, but really just doesn’t come together as a super cohesive story. The rooftop scene is great, shame it didn’t, you know, work in the end.
This is how I find I feel about a fair few of Moffat’s scripts - lots of great scenes where he has obviously had a really cool idea but then struggles to tie them into a cohesive narrative. Manhattan is one example and, I know hardly anyone agrees, but I would say Listen is another perfect example of that problem (see also The Time of the Doctor)
It does happen occasionally, but I’d say fewer times than you’d say. Still can’t say you’re right about Listen, that comes together perfectly fine, in a very clever fashion, it just doesn’t work for you and I guess a few others, and that’s ok too.
