Got to see Joy to the World yesterday. It was okay. Well, probably a bit better than okay. There’s one plot thread I thought was out of step with the rest of it, but mostly good stuff.
What plot thread?
Some folks may not have seen it yet, so…The COVID part. Maybe it’s just too soon, but I thought it was handled awkwardly and just shoved into the story. I felt it really needed a different episode around it for the ending to have the emotional payoff it was aiming for. YMMV of course.
I see your point but I thought that they handled it well. It is something a lot of people had to deal with and it had different effects on different people. I thought that Joy punishing herself for something she could not control worked fine with her story.
Same feeling. My personal experience of covid was only some online classes and frequent nucleic acid tests. Many of my friends and family had to deal with infections multiple times, but somehow I dodged all the bullets. I hate getting offended on others’ behalf, but I don’t think I’d be ok with this episode’s handling of covid if I were in Wuhan at the time or lost a friend or family member to it. It feels rushed and shoved in.
I do agree with your comment about Joy, that was fine for her character, but I don’t think that topic meshed well with the message of “joy”.
Watched part four of Enlightenment just now, and am putting on the King’s Daemons
Kamelion!!!
Currently watching Web Planet. It is not the best…
Something we agree on!
I dont feel like an episode of Who just has to be about joy. I like it when an episode explores different topics and I think that sorrow is a big part of the show. I think that they did it in a good way this time. But I can see how different people can see it in different ways.
Watching The Five Doctors
New console
Love this one
I just started watching The Scream Of The Shalka. Richard E. Grant is great
I have just watched the two first episodes of Crusade. It is a great story and it is sad that we only have half of it. It is extra sad that we don’t see Ian’s transition into Sir Ian!
The story I watched tonight included the following elements:
- Carol singers will be criticised
- A re-utilised set
- A new character that will return
- Two actors at the top of their game enjoying sparring off one another and able to switch from comedy to heart break within one sentence
- A diary with exactly the right number of pages.
Biggest disappointment in the episode is we never saw him criticize any carol singers.
Watched “Mummy on the Orient Express” and “Deep Breath” double feature with my Mom. I think that she enjoyed it.
Why’d you do it in the “wrong” order?
Just saw Warriors of the Deep part 1.
The lighting of the sea base set is just atrocious - it’s so, so very bright.
“Face it Tegan, he’s drowned!”
10/10 cliffhanger right there
Warriors of the Deep feels like they’re trying to mimic the design of the Tantive IV from the opening of A New Hope in places.
