When I used to get in arguments with people about Classic vs New (where the baseline of their argument was always how perfect the Classic series was and how awful the new series) I would often cite Season 8 as a prime example of something which is given a free pass in the classic - the Master being the villain in every single story as something which wouldn’t even be countenanced in the new series by it’s critics.

Watched the animated version of The Faceless Ones Episode 1 this evening. I like these animations but they are still a bit clunky in places.

I’d agree if it wasn’t Roger Delgado. He was so brilliant, especially with Jon Pertwee, honestly can never get enough of them, never tire of seeing him.

I shudder to think what a season with Ainley’s Master in every serial would have been like.

Lots of fun, if I’m honest.

I can’t take that much camp. Not that Delgado was never camp, he totally was at times, but Ainley would be too much for me.

I went off to search for images as a humorous retort and then you went and edited your post, confounding my hilarious posting - but here they are anyway…

Nothing camp here, guvnor…

I’ll give Ainley a “better than Eric Roberts”

I’d personally have been good with Sasha Dhawan showing up, well, maybe not every episode, but in a lot of 13’s…

I was very surprised that he didn’t appear in Flux!

My wife is out of town with our oldest daughter for the weekend. I plan to put our youngest to bed and watch at least two more episodes of RTD2 as part of my Christmas preparations. She didn’t nap at preschool today, so hopefully, that means she’ll fall asleep quickly. I’ve also bought snacks and soda. Of course, this will probably not happen, putting her to bed will take forever, and I’ll be too exhausted to watch anything at all!

I used to watch Doctor Who at 1.30 am when desperately trying to rock my eldest to sleep when they were a tiny baby. Have distinct memories (despite the sleep deprivation) of watching The Android Invasion for some reason.

I did my first watch of the classic series during naps and similar situations of my latest parental leave.

She is asleep! Who Time!

Yes, but…

I’ve always been pretty down on the Pertwee era overall because it was (mostly) stuck on Earth, and also probably because at times it was (mostly) the same Master beats over and over. So, I’m on board with “I don’t want the Master all the time” and on board with “surprise it’s the Master!” except…

One was enough. When you start to make every appearance of the Master a case where they hide who it is for a portion of the story and then there’s the big reveal, it gets tired. Or, worse, it gets Kalid.

That schtick got old too.

Dot and Bubble were great on a rewatch. It is interesting how Lindsey’s racism was much more obvious when rewatching this.

  2. 73 Yards
  3. Boom
  4. Dot and Bubble

Excited to finish Flux with ‘The Vanquishers’!

I went to see the new Wicked movie. Very disappointing. After 20 minutes, there was still no sign of Ace, so I just walked out.

While I haven’t watched it recently, I do remember giving it a rewatch, and yeah, her racism is everywhere when you know to look for it.

While I still like Rogue and I think that it is a great episode I feel like there are some flaws in it. Especially after reading the novel that solves these issues. The setting is fantastic and I like Rogue as a character. I just feel like some things could be a little more fleshed out.
