The Legend of Ruby Sunday is okay. It has some problems but I think its biggest problem is Morris, I really don’t like him. I know that he is supposed to be fun but I really don’t think he is.
The time window is an interesting idea and that the episode as a whole is not as bad as people make it seem.

I hope that this comment won’t be seen as too rude, but it’s spelled “Rogue”, not “Rouge,” a shade of red. (It’s difficult for me to spell myself. Maybe we should sign a petition to rename it “Skurk.”)

Didn’t vibe much with Kinda part 1 but really vibing with part 2. Maybe the DW story with the most accurate portrayal of a stress induced breakdown I’ve ever seen? And Janet Fielding is genuinely amazing in part 2.
Loving how weird this all is, and excited to finish it over the weekend

Empire of Death is not as bad as I remember. It is not that good but it has some good moments and it has a spoon. I like that Rubys moother is no one special and that Morris is dead for most of the episode. I think that the dog whistle and leash were a fun conclusion. Rubys’ goodby are beautiful. I hope they do the whole birthmother story a great one in the next season and don’t forget Carla.
I won’t talk that much about the problems with the episode, others have already done that but if I could ask for anything is that the connection to 73 yards would have been stronger. I Think that it would have made both episodes greater.

Overall I really enjoyed rewatching the 15th Doctor’s first episodes. The chemistry between 15 and Ruby is one of the best Doctor companion condensations in a long time. They carry the season together. I hope that Ruby is a big part of season 2 and onwards.
Susan has to be part of the next season! Everything else would be madness.

Yeah, don’t want them to forget Carla like Ruby did as soon as she found her “real mum.” Ok, that’s exaggerating a bit, but I didn’t like the suggestion that the woman who raised Ruby her whole life wasn’t still her “real” mother.
It was kinda funny that they just decided to change what Roger ap Gwilliam wanted to do just for the purposes of making Empire of Death work. He said nothing about genetics in that interview in 73, but then it was all “collect everyone’s DNA” later.
I think Millie Gibson and Ncuti Gatwa have good on-screen chemistry, but I wish their relationship had more depth to it than just, “yeah, they’re fun together.” Maybe there’s more to come, we’ll see.
No objections to a Susan return, but I want it to be Carole Ann Ford if they do it, since she’s still alive. Even if they have her regenerate or something as part of the episode, I’d like to see Ford if they bring Susan back at all.

Yeah what I really want is Carole Ann Ford to have an episode as Susan, and then for her to regenerate into a new actress and maybe stay with Ncuti for a few seasons as his companion again, that would be so good!

I think that the shorter season is partially the problem here. They had too little screentime together to develop that depth. That is also a reason why I want Ruby to return. She deserves more time.
I don’t think that they will return her for a whole episode even if I whish they did. But as you said I would love it if she returned for at least a part of a story or flashbacks.

Will never stop being mad that Susan didn’t appear even just for a scene at the end of Empire of Death. It really felt like she was.
If she doesn’t appear in season 41 at all I’m genuinely gonna be really annoyed

I saw this said at the time the episode aired and I really don’t think that’s how it was written or played at all. It was absolutely clear in those final scenes that Ruby’s birth mother was being welcomed into her family of Carla and Cherry. It was also very clear throughout from the Christmas special onwards that searching for her birth mother was something Ruby was determined to pursue - she even got Davina McCall involved and there’s no suggestion Carla had any problem with it at all. I really don’t get where people get the idea that Carla is being abandoned by Ruby - it’s simply not there.

No. I don’t think Carla is being abandoned. Just referring to the mother who didn’t raise her as the “real” one rubbed me the wrong way. If they just said “birth mother” it would be a non-issue.
