I tend to do that with other things as well, but I was able to stop myself from doing that with Doctor Who luckily as I actually really enjoy going into the episodes as blind as possible.
I finished Fury from the Deep just now and I really don’t know how I feel about how Victoria screaming was the thing to save the day.
Besides that and the fact that I kept starting to sing Under the Sea whenever they mentioned the word seaweed I actually really enjoyed the whole thing
The design of that sonic speaker weapon thing did make me look up since when ear bud headphones existed (from what I found in my 5 minute search roundabout 1983 or something? (It was just a short search and I didn’t want to go too deep to find out what I was searching so it might just be wrong but still)) as they just looked like giant ones.
Now I am on to The Wheel in Space.
Just finished Horror of Fang Rock. It was really good. I’m loving Leela so far. Here’s my review:
I highly recommend Toby Hadoke’s commentary podcast for Horror of Fang Rock - he adores the story.
I finished the Wheel in Space today. It was a great episode. I at this point (one story with her in) like Zoe a lot.
Zoe is awesome - one of my favourite companions.
I have decided to stop avoiding it and watch 60s Who because I have watched nearly nothing of the first and second doctors and I really need to
“Whadda’ ya mean creatures?”
“I am a human Dalek!”
Pig slaves
Brainy Monoid with too many facial phallic protuberances
“My Angel put the Devil in me”
There is probably, maybe a good story in here but it is just hampered so much by a continuous stream of bad production decisions.
I need some proper good Who before tackling the second part of this travesty of accents - by Kroll it grates small pieces of my faith in humanity every time Tallulah or Mr Diagoras opens their mouths.
Every time I watch this I think, “It can’t possibly be as bad as I remember?” but it really, really is - and I don’t like that, I want to like all Doctor Who - and yet I feel generous when rating this at 1,5/5
The second is my favorite classic Doctor. Hope you like it.
And yet, the actress who played Tallulah would go on to play Mrs. Constance Clarke.
Haven’t heard any of those…
I’ve only heard a scattering, so she’s not one I’m overly familiar with.
You can’t say this like it’s a negative when the delivery of this line is literally the best part of the episode
Oh believe you me I can
That line delivery makes the General from The Space Pirates sound like he’s doing Shakespeare in comparison. It might be the single worst line delivery in Who history in my book.
So saying it’s the best part of the episode is damning it with faint praise indeed.
“No not the mind probe” is high art in comparison.
But I’m glad someone enjoys it?
If you can’t enjoy the exaggerated old New York accent you need to go watch Newsies and try to rediscover the joy and whimsy that’s been lost from your heart /lh
Right, you’re sleeping in the spare room tonight, Mister.
I know it’s not brilliant, but I rather enjoy Daleks in Manhattan - and you take that back about Miranda Raison’s Tallulah (three Ls, one H) - I adore her!
I think it is the “exaggerated” part I take objection to. But then again that Old Timey New York accent has never been a favourite of mine (putting it mildly).
But I’ll put that one on the list if I at some point feel like watching a musical - see if my heart can be mended enough to encompass Tallulah
Ha I’ve decorated that spare room as a Doctor Who den complete with a pull-out bed like the one in Planet of the Daleks, so no complaints from me
And Tallulah three Ls and an H - how else would you spell it?
No, I didn’t just go back and edit my post because I wrote two by accident instead of three. No. I didn’t. Go away. Stop looking.
I just finished the Dominators. I really enjoyed it and I laughed so hard at the last bit of dialogue before the episode ended.
