Decided to, after a long break, continue reading Obverse’s Peter Cushing Doctor novels. I started getting them when they first released and have now realised I’m a good 10 books behind, so want to catch up a bit.

Oh never heard of these before. Are they basically what if the Cushing movies continued and adapted more of the shows stories?

Basically, yes! They adapt the two movies as the first two novels, and then they continue on. I loved the first two novelisations and did get someway through this one before being distracted, but I’ve found them very charming, lovely stories and would highly recommend based on what I’ve read so far. Each one has a lovingly crafted fictional account of the history of the release of story, because some of these are novelisations of movies, others are radio shows or TV movies.
These are all crafted to raise funds for charity too, I believe the charity varies between releases, but these a wonderful hidden gem of the much wider Whoniverse.

Adding to what Shayleen said, I’ve read many comments in praise of these. People seem to really like them.

I personally have never read any of them. Would like to get them, but overseas shipping costs held me back, and now they’re just a sad absence in my personal library.

And they still need adding to the site!

Finished the Faction Paradox book Weapons Grade Snake Oil yesterday, phenomenal book with one of the strangest but most genius final chapters I’ve ever read, I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into the series as it doesn’t require a whole lot of pre-requisite knowledge

Just started Torchwood: Slow Decay, only a chapter in but loving how perfectly they’ve captured the early 2000’s Torchwood vibe

Two more novelisations today, State of Decay and Warriors’ Gate. Warriors’ Gate is a standout so far, it’s a really good story and very well written!

Is the Warrior’s Gate novel the 1982 version or the 2023 version based on the extended audiobook?

I read the 1982 version just now. Do you know if the 2023 version is much different? I’d be interested to see how they compare, I thought at first that one just had the two short stories added but looking into it now, it might’ve been somewhat more changed

I know that the 2023 novelization is based on the 2019 audiobook version, which is described as “extended and restored by the author”, but as I’ve never read either version, nor listened to the audiobook, I can’t give you more specific details, sorry.

Well 2023 also has two bonus Romana short stories so…

I’ll definitely pick it all up eventually, might just be a bit since I’m currently going in approximate release order through all of Romana’s stories, and those are pretty new (and for the audio ones I have to see about getting the cheap audible credits so that’s always a bit fiddly), I’ll be sure to compare when I get around to it

And isn’t one of them with the Eighth Doctor as well ?:slightly_smiling_face:

I read two more novelisations today, Full Circle and Meglos. Full Circle is very good, Meglos is rather middling, but I thought the same of the TV version, so I suppose that’s fine.

Also probably going to read Blood Harvest and Goth Opera soon, and since these are part of the VNA/VMAs, are there any others I should be reading/you’d recommend before these?

Ooh, can’t speak to Blood Harvest, but Goth Opera definitely works standalone.

But you should definitely read the VNAs anyway  or at least some of them, they can be SO good!

I definitely will, it’s all just a matter of when!

I recently read Blood Harvest and Goth Opera. Loved them
They work well as a two part duology, I’ve seen it said that they can be read in the order you choose, but I would go for Blood Harvest first :slightly_smiling_face:

I been reading the 13th/10th Doctor crossover comics. I thought they were great fun. :+1:

Both the Doctors’ and the companions’ personalities are captured really well.

The 13th Doctor realising how thick she was in regards to Martha was great

I’ve just watched “Staged” so I somehow read the 10th Doctor’s lines in Tennant’s Scottish accent, and literally didn’t realise it till I was halfway through “Alternating Current” :joy::slightly_smiling_face:

Someone tell me there’s something after this:

I really want more 13th Doctor with the Corsair

I’d like Ten at least 500% more if Tennant used his natural accent… :scotland:
