Listened to Davros part 2 and Terry Molloy is soooo incredible. Everyone is but he easily steals the show.

Highlight for me other than all of the character depth being given to him is Lorraine realising just how awful Davros is, after loving and worshiping him, gradually over time all just by him talking to her. So amazing!

Just listened to the third story in Missy series one, The broken clock and wow. I’m just… Like i was expecting sillier tales but the quality and depth of this one is on par with The War Master.
Robert Shearman vibes (i only have heard Holy Terror and Chimes so that’s Shearman for me sorry lol) honestly with the whole really funny and nonsensical situation where people question their reality but then turns out to be a really personal story where traumatized individuals went through some crazy sci fi thing. Not quite the same but the vibes y know.
Also the parodic angles to the story and the music and the like, stuff for Missy. It’s all so good. Of course it turned out to be written by Nev Fountain.

Been updating my old River Song reviews, but I only covered half of Series Three about a year ago.

Seemed like a good idea to just remake these reviews.

Which is fine, because good God ‘The Lady in the Lake’ is phenomenal!

The Tenth Doctor Chronicles, volume 1. The first two stories were kind of meh (by DW standards, still good by the world at large standards), but I got about halfway through Wild Pastures and love it. I honestly think Sylvia’s a bit ooc, but the script is so funny.

Seven Keys to Doomsday - Nah, just couldn’t get into this one. Perhaps stage plays just don’t translate well to audio, or perhaps the stage plays that have been produced for Doctor Who just aren’t that great.

The companions in this one are just two people from the audience, so there’s no real introduction and no reason to become invested in them. The quest for the seven keys is, well, it’s like doing an Easter egg hunt in an empty room with no furniture. Everybody the Doctor meets just happens to have one with them, and they’re all perfectly happy to hand them over.

As Terrence Dicks says in the commentary, the play was designed around the visual spectacle, without that…I don’t think there’s much substance underneath. Well, only one more from the Stage Plays line to get through. Should hit that one tomorrow.

Finished R&J which was huge fun. Loved them visiting different points in Jack’s life including little vignettes set during Boom Town and Last of the Time Lords. Not quite sure why it took Jack so long to work out the mystery man River kept talking about was the Doctor but other than that, one of the best of these Jack sets.

Also listened to the first episode of The Many Deaths of Jo Grant. Seemed a bit generic to begin with but the central mystery is kicking in now and seems intriguing.

Finally jumping back into Audio Club with Colditz.

TORCHWOOD: More Than This
Another very solid entry featuring Gwen. I’ve enjoyed both of the Gwen stories I’ve listened to so far. This was an amusing story and a pleasant listen, but then ramped up nicely at the end with a modest emotional punch. Next up in this range, for me, is “The Victorian Age”. Should be fun!

DOCTOR WHO: Warlock’s Cross - Episodes 1 and 2
I typically enjoy the Seventh Doctor audios and this is no exception. I’m half way through so far. Episode 1 was a solid set up, following on from “The Helliax Rift” and “Hour of the Cybermen”. Though not my favourite of the Daniel Hopkins audio’s so far (that is currently “Hour of the Cybermen”), the opening episode of “Warlock’s Cross” did set up things nicely enough. It’s also nice to have Klein back. She works so well with the Seventh Doctor. Episode 2 really moved things along, and was much pacier. An enjoyable listen, though not top tier. Nonetheless, looking forward to episodes 3 and 4.

Ages since I’ve listened to “Colditz” but I still remember it well. That says a great deal about the quality of this story. Great stuff and I need to relisten!

I love More Than This, honestly might be one of my comfort audios

It’s interesting, to me, that I’ve enjoyed the Ianto, Gwen and Yvonne stories more than the Jack centric stories so far.

There’s some good Jack ones in there, but yeah, that pattern mostly holds from what I remember

I remember when Home Truths came out, I was confused. The setup for the Companion Chronicles has a companion later in life looking back on something that occurred during their time with the Doctor.

They already danced around a sticky situation with Zoe and Jamie, whose memories had been wiped…but Sara Kingdom? Hard to skirt around her being, you know, dead.

I probably remember this one better than most because I thought the way they got around that issue was pretty inventive. I did not remember, though, how well paced it. I think it’s a wonderfully written piece.

Of course, it’s also bolstered a bit by the previous audio (Seven Keys) falling so flat for me, but still…

I agree that More Than This is an excellent story, Gwen’s at her best and Roger is a surprisingly endearing protagonist.

Did not like The Victorian Age however, would be interesting to hear somebody’s else’s opinion because I thought it was paced dreadfully and any attempt at comedy or drama fell unbelievably flat.

It was, indeed, very enjoyable. Still not one of my favourites, but it was certainly worthy of merit. Gwen was, as you say, at her best; cool, taking it all in her stride and, quite simply, rather magnificent. Roger Pugh was also a revelation.

Hmmm. I’ve not heard great stuff about this one, but I’ll keep an open mind. After all, I might find something in it that I enjoy. We shall see!

I have listened to it but a few years ago now as part of my marathon. It was the first Torchwood audio I listened to but looking back at my review it didn’ seem to impress me. I didn’t like John Barrowman’s performance and I describe the monster plot as generic and not very engaging. Rereading my review, I’m downgrading my TARDIS Guide rating to 2/5.

I’m starting to go through all the Sixth and Seventh Doctor main range stories…halfway through Spectre of Lanyon Moor! So far I really enjoy Evelyn Smythe and the banter she has with the Doctor and it’s always fun to have the Brigadier in a story.
