Just finished Absolution. On its own a pretty mediocre story (as a lot of them have been lately) but that ending gutted me. Onto The Girl Who Never Was, which I’m sure will be absolutely fine and won’t ruin me at all!
Thanks for pointing this out. I remember when I first added this to the site, being very confused about who had the name right. The artwork was official, as far as I could tell, but had a different name! Oh well, fixed!
Nearly finished torchwood tales
I’ve listened to all of them but I was half asleep in the coach for red skies so relistening
Finished Company of Friends. Pretty mid, I can’t lie, but then again I have seen literally nothing else with Benny, Fitz, or Izzy. Benny and Fitz’s were pretty good but Izzy’s was just… so obnoxious. Didn’t like it at all. Mary’s was a good lead in for her stories, though, and I’m looking forward to getting into those.
I am currently listening to #32 of the Big Finish main range, The Time of the Daleks via Spotify. My goal is to listen to all 333 stories from the Big Finish main range in order. I am happy to have found this website today!
Welcome!
We are doing the same in the Audio Club if you want to share thoughts about then it would be fun.
Also, it would be nice if you would like to introduce your self in Introductions
Welcome to our little corner of the internet!
And if you need to complain/rejoice over any episodes a little more quickly, I am also speedrunning the MR over in Big Finish: The Monthly Adventures
I finished “Previously, Next Time” last night (may have been a little sleepy), so I have now finished all of Time War in my Eighth Doctor binge.
I think before moving on to Audacity and Echoes I ought to catch up to where we are in the Audio Club as I’ve been neglecting that lately!
I will listen to every single McGann audio!
I just finished the Lost Quartet. It’s much better than the Winter one. It introduces (and says farewell) to new companions, Brandon Yow and his sister Alex Yow. They are a good pairing two the 12th Doctor. My ranking:
- The Lost Angel 4/5
- The Lost Magic 3.5/5
- The Lost Planet 3.5/5
- The Lost Flame 3.5/5
Now I only have two audios left of the BBC New Series Adventures set
If it helps, Benny is prolific in the Whoniverse having been introduced in the VNAs as a companion, then having her own Virgin series after they lost the Doctor Who license, before then becoming Big Finish’s longest running series. Fitz was a companion in the EDAs and was first introduced in the novel “The Taint”. Izzy was the first Eighth Doctor companion in the DWM comics.
I’ve had a busy couple of days.
BBV 04: The Left Hand of Darkness 3.5/5
Fun little character piece. It was an interesting idea that didn’t outstay it’s welcome. Acting was solid.
This is the only thing I had a chance to listen to.
Just started listening to Redacted since they are a good length for when I am doing something between studying, like washing the dishes.
Finished The Girl Who Never Was today and decided to relisten to Scherzo to unwind. I think I’ll take a break from Eight for a bit and catch up on the Torchwood audios I bought but have yet to listen to.
Nust finished Archipelago and it was really good! Was a bit of a distracted listen tbh but I loved so many elements of it and think I may relisten to it soonish. Excellent use of Nine with River, while a lot of this range is generic this is a genuinely creative and meaningful story and ends the range on a high.
Two episodes into Primord and sadly I’m not convinced by Daisy Ashford’s Liz at all. There is some very odd over pronouncing of some letter sounds and I’m getting nothing of Caroline John’s characterisation. Jon Culshaw’s Brig is good (if not as uncanny as David Richardson would want us to believe). It’s a good story though and I liked the reveal that Liz is already a Primord.
Also listened to 4 episodes of Toby Hadoke’s Sensorites commentary and will probably do Episode 5 of the audio version of the Sensorites in the next couple of days in preparation to listen to his fifth episode commentary. I also still need to listen to the Indefinable Magic for Legend of Ruby Sunday.
Well, Tuesday’s commute ended with the beginning of Death Comes to Time, and I finished listening to the remainder today.
It’s a strange story indeed, for me it feels so different from any other Doctor Who, yet it still feels like a could-have-been approach. Enjoyed listening to it as a curiosity.
I never quite got a handle on what Death Comes to Time wanted to do or be. It’s very ‘out there’ in a lot of its concepts and it sometimes feels only tangentially connected to the TV show. Have you watched the flash animation version?
I did, when it was released. What I listened to here was the CDs I burned from downloading that story, rather than an official CD release.
I can’t speak to the “animation”, as I haven’t seen it in decades.
The last two of the 12th Doctor New Series Adventures were nothing special. I have had some repetitive work tasks recently and started on the BBC Audio originals. I had already listened to the first one and started with this trilogy. And this one was good. They understood the format much better than the NSA and were all told in the first person. It is also fun to have a trilogy where the setting and the new characters are constant and the Doctor and the companions change. If you want to listen to them do it in order (especially do not listen to Fortunes before the other two).
My ranking:
- Fortunes of War 4.5/5
- Horrors of War 4/5
- Men of War 4/5
