What are you currently listening to?

Yeah, it was a bit of a rough start. But the 9DAs get a lot better after that and maintain a pretty consistent quality throughout.

I really hope so, since I already own the next nine episodes haha

There are some great stories in the Ninth Doctor run. However, while I get what they were going for (a big bombastic epic to launch the range), I fully think that this was not the right move. I remember enjoying parts, and loving Eccleston in it, but it does really feel like a bit of a mess and a poor choice to start a range that will be a major gateway into Big Finish for casual fans.

Yeah, it’s not like the underlying story is bad, it’s pretty solid but a little bit generic. Would make a very fine 45-50min story, but it does feel like they expanded it out to make it an epic rather than having an epic story that required all this time to explore. Eccleston is going for it though, completely committed, he does make it work.

I agree. There js real mileage to explore this world further. I remeber when Hothouse came out for the 8DA. It was… OK. Did nothing particularly new. The thing with the Krynoids is, they do what they do. Relatively little scope for nuanced strategy so the story has to be carried by the world in which they are encountered. It’s here, for me, where Planet Krynoid really excels. It’s a full on sci fi setting and creates a world with depth. I so want to see where this story could go next. Will a future Doctor encounter the struggle, later on in their timeline, and realise the full horrors that occurred after Eight left? So much dramatic potential.

All this release had to do, for me, was just be good. It was so much beter than merely good. Fantastic!

It’s rare that an audio release creates such vivid imagery in my mind.

The seed pods have landed. The colony world of Sunlight will NEVER be the same again.

Oh how I long for the release of season 13 (The Collection) on BluRay. I’m aching to watch The Seeds of Doom but… willl… resist (until the swanky new edition is ready).

Big Finish, I take my hat off to you.

An outstanding release. :star:

More please?

And if I remember correctly, Ravagers wasn’t originally going to be the first story of the range, but they eventually decided that they wanted to launch the range with a bang!

Oh that’s very interesting! I’m not done with the Behind The Scenes track yet, I definitely will listen to it all though, because I would like Nick Briggs to explain himself haha

You’ve really sold this one, by the way, this sounds great! I love Seeds Of Doom, love the Krynoids, love Hothouse too, I may have to get this one.

Just wait until you get to Monsters of Metropolis. I loved that one so very much. Wonderful period story with depth, sharp characterisation and a really worthwhile payoff at the end - in my opinion. Others may differ, of course (but they’d be wrong! :squinting_face_with_tongue:).

Fritz Lang and Cybermen? I’ve been trying not to just skip straight ahead to that one because it’s so specifically my cup of tea haha, can’t wait

Planet Krynoid is fantastic! Definitely recommend getting it!

And seconding the Monster of Metropolis rec. It’s superb, especially if you’ve watched Metropolis and are aware of how it was produced.

Glad you liked Hothouse. It was perfectly serviceable (I enjoyed it well enough) but it really did nothing new. Planet Krynoid was stunning. That’s how to do a monster focused spin-off mini series in the Whoniverse.

However good The War Between is (and I genuinely think it’ll be something I’ll really enjoy), Planet Krynoid is the one to beat now. If you love Krynoids, you will be in seventh heaven!

Enjoy!

listened to Red Dawn on this morning and it was a total blast, all the way through! Fivey and Peri wasn’t a pairing I would be keen to enjoy (I hate Peri), but they worked quite nicelly.

You’re the first I’ve seen who has enjoyed that audio! Always interesting to come across new angles! I’m glad you liked it!

tbh, it wasn’t love at first sight (just like my first experience with doccy who). the first time I listened to this story, I paused it several times and, on top of that, I was WAY more focused in my minecraft tardis build. I gave it a second chance today and it was amazing

So I’m about to head home from work and have The Diary of River Song 2 all cued up on my phone…

Exciting times!

That’s why we always say that we should give everything a second chance—we might just like it more (or less, sometimes).

Dark Eyes 1 is fine, it’s when they decided to quadruple its length that the real problems start. Even then, parts of it still work

I mostly object to people reccomending it as a starting point when both Blood of the Daleks and Doom Coalition are much friendlier to new audiences. It feels like suggesting someone start the tv show with series 6 (2011)

I’m going to be heretical and say that I actually preferred Dark Eyes (yes, series 1 through 4 inclusive) to Doom Coalition and Ravenous. I see the flaws in Dark Eyes but I just have so much fun with it (and, of course, it’s where the ever brilliant Liv Chenka properly boards the TARDIS).

I’m going to be starting Stranded: Season 1 soon. Very curious. I know some love it whilst others are less than impressed. I have an open mind and I’m intrigued by the idea.
