Listened to The Panda Invasion, really enjoyed it. A fun Iris parody of the TV Movie

Any of you recommend Gallifrey? I tried getting into it but 1st episode bored me so I quit.

Oh, Gallifrey is very beloved on this forum!

I’d definitely recommend continuing. The consensus is that Series 1 can be a but hit or miss, but the characters and plot really begin to hit in series 2. I personally love it! It’s an all-time favourite spinoff of mine and single-handedly made Leela and Romana two of my most beloved characters.

Oh, and Narvin of course…!

I think you’ll find that a lot of people here recommend Gallifrey!

gallifrey!!! I absolutely adore Gallifrey!! I am so in love with Romana, Leela, Braxiatel and Narvin I don’t have words for it. It’s my top Doctor Who ever. I don’t need the TV series I would be happy with just these audios forever. And I’m only halfway through!!

I recommend that you stick with it for at least the first season, it’s around A Blind Eye to Spirit that it gets really good, the first couple I love too but I understand that they might not speak to everyone. You can also check out the Audio Club Extra threads we have for the first three series.

Again I adore Gallifrey I will recommend it to anyone I love it so so much

It’s a slow burn. Took me into the S1 finale to truly appreciate it, and I didn’t begin loving it until partway through S2. And it can be a bit slow and messy at first, but it all pays off in the long run.

Gallifrey is super rewarding, I’ve got Gal V to do eventually so just debating whether to start that or Call Me Master next

I adore this Story. I do recommend it if you are a) a huge Fan of Pure Historicals b) don’t mind a long one. Maybe listen to a few other narrated Stories before this one to ease yourself into it but yes such a great script adapted superb! Up there with The Elite as one of the best Stories of that Range so far (for me).

As for Gallifrey: I do very highly recommend it, I do say stick around for at least the first 4, possibly even first 5 (I personally clicked with Lies). Of course this is a task and if you don’t wanna then obviously don’t force yourself to it. But if you have any huge Love for Romana II and especially Leela, I think you will have a great Time with that Series as it continues!

Fugitive’s Most Wanted. It was between this and another Erimem story (a very difficult decision) but this one came out on top.

Council of War. Ugh. That was awful. No, not the story, the story was fun. But it’s one lousy track. Even though it is two episodes. Not even a break between episodes. One wonders if that was an accident in the pressing. But technical grousing aside, I found a lot to like in this one, from the opening party scene where I thought the music really made the setting concrete, to the alien world and its backstory… John Levine, though, does not come at all close to capturing Pertwee’s voice. But that’s a minor thing.

Adding to the choir on this. Yes, Gallifrey is very worth it. I will admit that the plots aren’t the best the Whoniverse has produced, but you don’t listen to Gallifrey for the plots as much as for the characters. The journey that Romana II, Leela and Narvin[1] go on across the series is worth the listen. The first three seasons are essentially one long serialized story. This is not a series that can jumped in and out at random. We have a general Gallifrey thread (Gallifrey - The Audio Series), and then each installment of Series 1-3 has its own Audio Club thread. While the twists and turns are well worth the surprise for the first time listeners, I think Series 1 especially gains something on a relisten when you know the twists because you catch more things that a first-time listener would’ve missed. Anyway, enough rambling. The answer to your question is of course: Yes! (Just wait til @sircarolyn sees this.)

  1. these really are the main three, especially Leela ↩︎

The first two I’d defo recommend. The third is a short trips collection that I haven’t heard, and I think you’d enjoy it more if you had heard the series.

You can start at Time War 1 as its a jumping on point. Wouldn’t recommend starting with War Room though, it follows on from Time War 4.

IMO the whole series from the start is very worth it though, all the way from S1. I didn’t vibe w the first episode either years ago, but went back and committed to a full on binge listen and woah its good. Helps that I also love politics but just yeah, its fab!

Tomorrow I’m gonna do Genesis of the Cybermen, and maybe try start Master! Alternatively, I have 3 sets of UNIT Nemesis that I still need to get round to listening to, unfortunately I had something major spoiled for me. Honestly I’m kinda caught up with the ranges I wanna be rn, for the most part, so its the little odds and ends I’m working through before committing to a new range. I really wanna get round to the Erimem stuff too, seen a lot of conversations about it lately.

Don’t worry, the very first Big Finish audio i ever heard was Zagreus so nothing you start with will be as bad as that

Panacea. Jest, there are bits I personally find less good but there’s something in all of it.

@Mattie1711 Time War is like fine but War Room is EXCELLENT, I’ve been loving it a lot
