What are you currently listening to?

Listened to the first story of Eleven and Valarie. Was wondering how just the first story could already have such a high rating. I mean, you’d expect the super high scores to come later, when they can hit you with big emotional punches and aren’t in need to be all introductory, but they already pull it off here. Literally perfect. Might pull out a 10 page analysis later, for now I’m just excitedly looking forward and enjoying myself. If the rest is even half as good, I’ll probably like this more than Eleven’s TV run.

Oh did you also listen to the prologue Clara?

It’s under “Bonus” in the app.

I’d listened to that on the Big Finish podcast already, but did a relisten via the app before jumping into the Inheritance!

Finished Deadly Strangers! I’ve already talked here about Puccini and The Doctor so I’ll just skip to the other two.

Women’s Day Off was good but honestly I found it a little disappointing. I think the women’s march side of the story and the sci-fi stuff are both good individually, but just never come together in a cohesive way for me.

The Gloaming was really good! I really love how the Mara was done, and I love the political commentary. Incredible performances all round, but especially India Fisher.

What a great set overall! I love this TARDIS team and I hope we get more than one set of them a year tbh

I just listened to this and I agree, it was utterly underwhelming. I think it was meant to be a feelgood kind of thing but I felt literally nothing. It was fine but I’m not likely to think about it ever again

Relistened to the apocalypse element. Romana is so messed up

Started listening to The Dark Flame. It’s different hearing Benny now that I’ve finished Love and War. I feel more attached to her, strangely.

She still doesn’t have a patch on River Song though!!

I was thinking of continuing with the Eighth Doctor when I have listened to the rest of The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield.

I’ve got Doom Coalition as the next Eighth Doctor collection of stories.

Looking on Eighth Doctor releases on the Guide I noticed “Time War” and “Ravenous” alternated with releases of box-sets. Are those two connected and need to be listened in order of release, or can you choose one, listen to all the box-sets and then do the other?

They aren’t connected, they are different TARDIS Teams in different time frames.

Not at all. That just happened to be how they were released. The actual timeline goes Dark Eyes → Doom Coalition → Ravenous → Stranded → What Lies Inside?/Connections/Echoes → Time War 1-4, Cass, Reflections. The Audacity stuff fits in between the first two Main Range seasons.

Yes but even though Time War technically come after Ravenous etc, that’s only because of the time frame, there’s no continuity you need to know.

This, I guess, is really what I needed to know  Thanks :+1:

MASTER! 1.1 - Faustian

(Adapted, added a little more and submitted as my first review on TARDIS Guide - yahay! Finally! If anyone wanted to read in full, please check it out and leave a ‘like’, you know, if you, well, like! )

Completed this fantastic story. Rob Valentine’s script knows exactly what it wants to be and sticks to the brief throughout. It’s a wonderfully ‘honest’ script. By that, I mean that it doesn’t get carried away with itself and doesn’t try to be something it’s not. I really respect scriptwriters who are able to do this. As a result, it feels slick, tightly plotted and like a precision instrument in its execution.

I never had a problem with Eric Roberts’ portrayal in the TVM, though he got relatively little to really work with there. Here, though, we really get to find out what a truly chilling Master he is. I love the sense of simmering violence he portrays. It’s refreshingly different to most other incarnations, and really adds something unique to the character.

Overall, this release shows exactly what Big Finish can bring to the table when at their best. For me, the mark of a truly great audio is when I can ‘see’ the story playing out, as if televised, in HD clarity in my mind. This is exactly what Faustian achieves, and I can visualise the settings so well, especially the climax in Drake’s office suite. Compelling.

Once again, thanks are in order for @BillFiler. Our favourite American UNIT agent provided excellent intel for this one.

I’m on a bit of a listening spree.

Continuing on Gallifrey and New Benny.

I’m trying to finish the 15 Doctors, 15 Stories audiobook, which I put on pause for a couple of months.

Also probably going to give the Big Finish adaptations of The Highest Science a go, just to compare it with the novel.

Eric Roberts’ Master is just on another level when it comes to revelling in being vicious.
And Eric Roberts just utterly kills it in the role :+1:

Can’t wait to hear what you think about the other two stories in that box-set :+1:

On the plane last night I listened to the end of the latest 8DAs, The Stuff of Legend, and Black Thursday/Power Game all as new and then I put on Gallifrey WR2 to doze off to at the end of the flight.

Overall I had fun! Stuff of Legend, I can see how that was more fun live and there were some irritating aspects but it was a good listen and I was entertained

Listened to War Stories on a shopping trip. Overall a fun time with really great prose and strong characterisation that imo doesn’t live up to the premise. And please Big Finish just get a Glaswegian/Scot to voice 12 already :sob:

I felt much the same. I really like Robert Valentine as a scriptwriter. His Faustian script, for Master! Series 1 was sublime! That said, The Stuff of Legend was more prosaic. Great fun but nothing outstanding. His dialogue was strong throughout, however. Valentine can write people. On the whole, I really like Rob Valentine’s work and, when he’s really on form, he’s outstanding.
