I own a complete set of the original run (sort of - it’s a mix of paperback, hardback, reprints and weird double-pack releases). Buy, no, never actually read all of them - you cheeky young whippersnapper @MrColdStream.
Get readin’ then! You need to complete the set before @Tian does!
That is an amazing collection!
It probably includes the modern releases most of which I don’t have and don’t intend on getting any time soon and probably wouldn’t read even if I did.
about to start s6 of benny lost in translation!
I think the War Doctor’s stories tend to suffer from being marketed towards general audience. He can’t do things too controversial or nasty because kids might be reading/listening
That makes sense, but it’s still weird to hear him freaking out and having a moral crisis about shooting a dalek with a gun, and treating that as a big character moment, when in the book I just finished, his immeidate predecessor laid a trap for a human person that set off a full-sized bomb in their face
Maybe they should give him one of those “not suitable for younger listeners” warnings like they have for Torchwood and Iris Wildthyme
Finished Fractures driving back and forth from my mother-in-laws because my wife forgot her inhalers and has a really bad chesty cough at the moment. Then started listening to the third story of The Wintertime Paradox which features 12 and Bill.
Also known as “the BBC mandate”. Ever since the show came back, the BBC are much more protective of the Doctor Who trademark and its reputation, so Big Finish cannot go too wild with their releases.
Any mention of sex, drugs or anyone too nasty is confined to Torchwood
s6e1 of new adventures of benny done, it was INCREDIBLE. god i love this range.
Listened to War Stories earlier which I though was fun, 7/10
Needed a bit of “new to me” Thirteenth Doctor, so I’ve borrowed “The Romanov Project” from my library app.
A third of the way through at the moment - good stuff
I listened to the new Fourth Doctor story, The Curse of Time and found it perfectly serviceable but a pretty udnerwhelming 50th anniversary celebration.
A strong 6/10.
one box set left for me then i’ve caught up on the new adventures, i’ve got blood and steel as my final one!
Finished Inflicting Christmas from The Wintertime Paradox this morning. I’m finding Aldred as narrator a bit distracting as I keep forgetting it’s not Ace in the story. Probably won’t listen to any more this year and will carry on next Christmas.
Listened to the first two parts of The Last Adventure - both End of the Line and Red House were really good, but I preferred the latter. Reverse werewolves… absolute cinema.
Really intruiged to see where the Valeyard’s plan is going. Michael Jayston remains such a sinister, looming presence.
Listened to the 1st part of ‘Unknown Soldiers’. This is really good. The guest cast are really fun. Getting big Guardians of the Galaxy vibes.
Listened to the Doctor’s Beard podcast episode on Joy to the World this morning and am now finally catching up on Gallifrey with Warfare.
Feels like so long since I put on an audio. Less commuting around the holidays is to blame. Pu on The Wanderer, good ol’ William Russell… I liked it a lot, but I kept seeing Sacha Dhawan dancing to that Ra-Ra-Rasputin thingy. I feel sure that didn’t happen when I listened to it the first time around.
