What are you currently listening to?

I’ll certainly post in here when I’ve finished the first series.

Tomorrow I’ll probably celebrate 50 years of Tom Baker with the new 4th Doc set, then continue with Gallifrey and Benny.

Continuing to run through my Ninth Doctor Adventures boxsets. Today I finished Hidden Depths.

My thoughts were:
2.5/5 The Seas of Titan
Nothing wrong with this story but every Sea Devil or Silurian story seems to retread the same ground.
3.5/5 Lay Down Your Arms
Some interesting reflections on war.
4.5/5 Flatpack
Loved both the presenting story and the other ideas explored.
Although they were at pains to say it wasn’t about a certain flatpack store, making the well known labyrinthine nature of that store sinister felt very Moffat-like.
The setting and the story felt very RTD1 era.
Although there seems to be split opinion on how their relationship develops in Stranded, I love Liv and Tania, and enjoyed seeing how their lives together could be when things are ‘every-day’.
Loved the whole discussion about not being able to grieve the Doctor as he is still alive AND his previous incarnation is still busy in another place and time. Whilst this probably has been covered before, I don’t recall it, and it felt amazing to have a fresh concept be presented for consideration from a show that’s been running for sixty years.

finished ‘buried treasures’ the benny set written by benny fans and wow you can tell they are fans cause its strong. although i’m a bit sad at the lack of arc in this one, but i think the next two will give me what i want in that department!

Finished this tonight (still have some of the extras). It’s good. It almost has a bit of a Fallout feel to it. It think it works best because it’s not trying to be a big anniversary special. Instead, it’s just story #6 in Season 12.

Thanks to christmas money, I’ve been going through the War Doctor Begins series. I’ve finished volume 1, and they’re alright so far. They do feel like they’re pulling their punches a little (a weird side effect of listening to these while also going through the EDAs is being able to say “Your previous two incarnations did worse stuff than this regularly, what on Gallifrey are you angsting about?”), but they’re still better than the ones with Actual John Hurt.

Which brings me to an odd question. John Hurt was the War Doctor for 1 tv episode, and 12 audios. Jonathan Carley’s done 24 audios so far in his main series alone, and he shows no signs of stopping. At what point does Jonathan Carley become the main/primary/definitive actor for the War Doctor, with Sir John Hurt as a secondary/alternate?

Yeah it is really bad…

I’m 2 releases in. It’s not bad. Solid performances, and some interesting stories.

It’s a bit weird and really intense but despite any of its wonky bits I really love the series

That won’t happen until Carley’s an old man and actually appears on the show as the War Doctor!

I think he either already is or never will be. Hurt originated the role, and the character and performance are still based on him. He will always be the ‘definitive’ actor. But Carley is simultaneously definitely the ‘main’ actor, considering he’s the only active one and has more stories (and arguably a much better track record as well).

I keep listening to Target Novels in the order of the TV broadcasts. Along with my rewatch of Classic Who. Listing to The Rescue now.

I don’t know why I like to experience the stories twice but for some reason I do :joy:

Especially when most of them are exactly the same as the TV version

Someone has to be the first to complete this set :joy:

Maybe there’s a badge waiting! Now that you made it a contest, we’ll have some old-timer like @deltaandthebannermen suddenly remember that he’s read them all in the 90s and will complete the set before you…
