Listened to “Death and the Queen” on the “Into the TARDIS” podcast today. What a great way to sample stories you wouldn’t otherwise go for, and just delightful with Colin Baker bookending the episodes and the behind the scenes stuff.
Was this one of David Tennant’s first audio outings as the Doctor? Catherine Tate is spot on with her portrayal but Tennant seemed to struggle to recapture his onscreen spark in this one.
The story was good if a bit predictable and is very much an adventure I could see this duo having.
This is absolutely a podcast I will keep following

Weirdly enough, Death and the Queen is the third episode of the Tenth Doctor Adventures audio series. I’m not sure why they started with that one!
I’ve listened to it before and it wasn’t my favourite, but glad that you got to experience it in the podcast!
Were there many ads? I hate listening to ads in podcasts!

30 seconds at the beginning. 30 seconds halfway through and 30 seconds at the very end. So I think that is within reasonable levels.
The only weird thing was that the version I listened to had Danish commercials, which just seemed really strange when the podcast is in English

The ads are localized; some podcasts do this. I had Finnish ads, for instance.

That’s what I figured as well - I guess I have just never encountered localised ads in podcasts before…

Finished Killing Floor (Jack Reacher #1) tonight, starting Spectre of Lanyon Moor tomorrow.
The Land of the Dead. First time I’ve had to take a break half way through a story.

Today, I finished You Only Die Twice. This was a disappointing set for me. I didn’t feel pulled in by the stories, and Jacob Dudman’s Twelve is distractingly bad. These were all pretty slow and muddled, so sadly, I didn’t really enjoy any of the three stories.
Next up are Sisters of the Flame and The Vengeance of Morbius, before moving onto Dark Gallifrey!

Just finished Redacted and now starting the last boxset of Torchwood: Among Us

Yeha the little bits of his Twelve i’ve heard aren’t great. He gets the angry tone down but Twelve doesn’t always sound like that, whereas Dud12 does.

He sounds more like Tennant trying to sound like Capaldi to me. I much prefer his 11, which is pitch-perfect at times.

yeah his 11 is great. not perfect but a solid impersonation.

I’ve been told the only follow-up that exists is in a short story in a collection somewhere, which apparently itself also ends in an unresolved cliffhanger

Just swapped back over to the original Lucie Miller series a few days ago, but skipping over stories I don’t really care about on relistening. Just starting ‘The Zygon Who Fell to Earth’ tonight!

Finished the 11 and Valarie run, and I’m just impressed. This range does not miss. Most stories were 5/5 with the occasional dip down to 4/5. It was creative and dynamic and engaging and satisfying, and Valarie’s just established herself as one of my all-time favorite companions. I cannot reccomend this range highly enough
(also this run being this good, combined with how good his comics are, leads me to the theory that 11’s at his best when he isn’t onscreen (which feels mean to say). I’ll have to verify with some books, but if they’re also this good that shouldn’t be a problem)

That’s okay! 8 and 6 are at their best outside TV as well!

To be fair to 8, he only had one TV “episode” to judge him by. I thought he was brilliant in the minisode Night of the Doctor and stand by the opinion that they really missed a trick by not inviting him for his own mini series.
Imagine a 5-part mini series like Children of Earth showing how the Time War first began, starring the Eighth Doctor with cameos by Charlotte Pollard, Lucie Miller, Liv & Helen

Thing is, it was never followed up in the novels either - it was basically just a gag about Doctor Who in the 80s being set in the Land of Fiction. It was never meant to be taken seriously. It’s just that WMW was the last Missing Adventure before Virgin lost the licence.

I just listened to Part 1 of The Legacy of Time and it was magnificent. I think it might be the best thing related to the Time War with the 8th Doctor. Also i’m almost done with Shades of Fear and the stories kinda forgettable, unlike the past boxsets of the 9th Doctor.
