It’s a bit cheesy at times, but enjoyable enough stuff for early afternoon cosy mysteries. I’m looking forward to Colin’s episode too.
I’ve started “Dune: Prophecy”.
Halfway through episode 2 - wow it tells the story of the early Bene Gesserit Sisterhood really well Definitely a fan
Finally got around to Squid Game 2.
Also Abbott Elementary Season 4
And we’ve got one episode of A Series of Unfortunate Events left. The show has such an amazing cast and looks amazing.
Not long now till S3!! Really excited for how it’ll end.
As for Abbott… Disney plus has been only putting up some and I don’t know the time table for when more come out and how often it’s odd.
There’s 15 up at the moment.
They’ve been doing the same weird scheduling with 911 and Doctor Odyssey.
My wife and I have been working our way through Dexter for a while, and yesterday we watched the last episode (of the original series). I like it, but it is also kind of frustrating. The first season is really good, and the rest is almost really good, but it feels like it doesn’t dare to go really dark, which I think it should have to have been even better.
There are some TV series and films that play endlessly in this household of mine—so much so that, as my wife pointed out recently, the term ‘rewatch’ doesn’t quite cut it—‘Permawatch’ feels more accurate at this point!
Classic-era Doctor Who aside, four of those shows and films are The Time Tunnel, Star Trek TOS, Land of the Giants, and Batman 1966 (showing my age just a bit!). That being the case, I’d like to wish a very happy 90th birthday to Lee Meriwether, who appeared in all four.
In the late 1990s, Lee visited England, and a mutual friend—knowing how much of a fan of Lee and The Time Tunnel I am—arranged for me to meet her for a meal and a chat. Before we went off to the restaurant, Lee had to pop into a post office to send a parcel back home to the States. I cannot adequately explain how surreal an experience it was to find myself queuing in a post office with Catwoman! Just the thought that I once went out to dinner with Miss America will always make me smile.
You know how they say never meet your heroes? I can tell you first-hand—that advice doesn’t apply to Lee Meriwether, she was an absolute delight.
Sadly, it was reported last year that Lee had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It broke my heart then, and it still hurts. So I hope you’ll indulge me here while I send all my best wishes to a very special lady.
So I just spotted this on Twitter has anyone watched Primeval and do you think its worth trying it out?

It was pretty good but went a bit weird and never really had a proper ending.
It’s not a patch on Who but it’s definitely one of ITV’s better attempt to cash in on the resurgence of genre TV around that time.
oh yeah ITV tried to make their own Dr Who but failed huh?
I recall the first couple seasons of it being qute good.
Well not exactly. It was just the fact that suddenly ‘family shows’ were seen as having an audience again. Alongside Doctor Who, the BBC also gave us Robin Hood and Merlin. ITV gave us Primeval.
I still miss Merlin
Primeval > Merlin & Robin Hood. I guess this is controversial.
I keep meaning to start Merlin, but it keeps changing streaming platforms
I was an enormous fan of Primeval when it was on - as a huge dinosaur kid, it was basically appointment viewing for me. I think the first two series were pretty fantastic, but it started to run out of steam mid-series three, for plot reasons I won’t spoil here.
I never really thought of it as a competitor to Doctor Who, outside of the fact it was a British sci-fi show in that era - it felt a lot more “ITV”, whereas Doctor Who feels very “BBC” to me (don’t ask me to define what makes something BBC or ITV, I just know it when I see it ) - the tone was a lot more grounded than Doctor Who, and if I remember rightly, there was a bigger focus on the personal lives of the characters. The closest comparison I can think of is the US show Fringe, if you’ve seen/heard of that.
I have thought about revisiting it a few times, but never got around to it. Maybe one day!
I think Primeval wins out on plot and general concept, but Merlin wins on the quality of the cast and overall vibes - at the end of the day, I loved them both growing up. I don’t remember Robin Hood too well, but I know I enjoyed it.
Atlantis was another show in the same mould as the above three, which I never see mentioned - definitely worth a look for Merlin fans!
Atlantis was AWFUL!
For some reason the main character was a modern guy thrown back in time but this was never referenced (as far as I remember) beyond the first episode.
It died a very deserved death.
