TV Time - (but not Doctor Who!)

Watching the I’m A Celebrity Coming Out show. I hate Dean even more. He was nasty to Melvin, telling him to ‘tell it to the papers’ when Melvin explained how he used humour to mask his frustrations at Dean refusing to help with the chores in the jungle.

After hearing two of the guys on Radio Free Skaro rave about how good it is, I’ve started watching The Sandbaggers. A British spy show from the late 70s to 1980 starring Roy Marsden (Mr. Stoker in Doctor Who, Smith and Jones) as the leader of this group of special ops agents in the SIS with the same name as the title. 6 episodes in, and I’m enjoying it so far.

I’d like to share my thoughts on the Strictly final. Please don’t throw things! Oi! You, at the back! I saw you chuck that cabbage…

JB and Lauren
He’s very good, but has no remarkable quality. It also seems like the judges have been very kind to him in their comments and marking. Tonight it’s down to public vote only, although the judges still mark “for information”. If they continue to be very kind compared to other contestants, it could work against him. That said, they tend not to be contentious in the final for fear of swaying the vote too much. Story-wise he was Amy Dowden’s partner until she had to pull out due to an injury. This was to be her first season back as a dancer after she had aggressive treatment for cancer. I suspect that there may be talk of him “doing it for Amy”, which might help to carry the vote. That said, I’d feel slightly disappointed if they take the trophy, because it doesn’t fell like they’ve earned it fully. That’s probably a very unfair comment, as all the contestants strive hard for their places and JB seems like a self-effacing guy who doesn’t like to blow his own trumpet.

Tasha and Aljaz
I think Tasha is probably the moist accomplished of the contestants. Aljaz is always cheerful and positive. They’ve consistently danced well across many different styles. They would be worthy winners. But, while Tasha is deaf and uses a cochlea implant to hear, is this enough of a story to get the public to vote for them?

Sarah and Vito
They have performed consistently well, often inhabiting the top of the leader board. Sarah is cheerful and determined. Vito is quite a character and his enthusiasm is infectious. Being “of a certain age”, as someone who should remain nameless might have termed her, Sarah’s ability to cover many dance styles is remarkable. I’d be delighted if the won, but I don’t know if the public vote will back them.

Chris and Dianne
It’s incredible that they’ve got this far. If you ignore his disability, Chris is the weakest of the four celebrities. But, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that he can’t see anything and that Dianne has had to find alternative ways to communicate the routines to him. They’ve clearly worked very hard and it’s astonishing that they are competing at this level. They have a strong story, they perform well enough and Chris has a sharp and ready wit. They have a lot to engage the public vote, but they don’t dance quite as well as the others. They have a good chance of winning and I’d love to see the first blind contestant walk away with the trophy, but they are up against very stiff competition.

OK, normal service will now resume.

Past couple of days I have watched Tulsa King season 1 and 2. From some of the same people who made Yellowstone, which I rather like.

It’s nice to see Sylvester Stallone in TV, but my god, is it trash TV. Enjoyable crap. Enjoyable while watching, never to be rewatched.

We have been watching Young Royals which is sweet, and I started watching it years ago when it first came out but then had a big break, we are now catching up on series 2 and 3.

So now I know more about Sweden, where it is filmed, and it’s quite funny thinking that maybe @Tian is in this alternate reality watching TV when the Crown Prince is making a mess of things.

I actually have not seen it. My wife watched it a couple of years ago and liked it but I never saw it.

We’ve watched it as well! Great series! I don’t know how representative it is of Sweden though

Watched Red One. I was prepared to be disappointed but got a solid movie instead. It’s no masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but they avoided different pitfalls, kept the story pleasingly concise, and the production value was really good. I enjoyed watching it.

I’ve been holding off on watching this because I’ve heard it’s not the best, but maybe I’ll give it a go now!

I mean, you lot have usually been accurate with your recommendations for me
