Torchwood Main Range

So I have recently started the Torchwood monthly range from the beginning and I must admit, the quality is so good across the board. Are there any stories from the range you would recommend? :tardispink:

Honestly its one of the most consistent BF ranges for me, so good! That being said, have you any particular favourite characters you want to hear more from? Or would you like to delve more into the BF original character audios? (I highly recommend those btw).

There are also a handful of audios with Gwen set between S4 and S5 which are nice to listen to before S5, but by no means essential!

There are just too many good stories to mention here, but The Last Beacon, Dinner and a Show, and Reflect are definitely some of my favourites

You might find some recommendations in these other Torchwood audio threads:

Might be worth renaming the ā€œContinuing the monthly rangeā€ so it can just be the main thread for discussing the main/monthlies. All the others are quite clear name wise.

That’s about the future of the Monthly Range though?

Maybe I’ll make a thread for the Monthly Range and move stuff from the TV thread into there.

So much Torchwood!

Maybe we should have converted to Torchwood Guide yesterday instead - although probably not as funny!

Listened to The Dying Room today! A very enjoyable story. Simon Russell Beale was excellent, and while the plot was extremely predictable, it’s always gratifying to hear Nazis get ripped to shreds.

The Vigil today. A great idea – the death of a pre-series 1 Torchwood member – but it doesn’t sit quite right with me for some reason. People need to stop being mean to Tosh >:(

Felt a bit down after The Vigil so relistened to A Christmas Card from Mr Colchester.

I love this story! Paul Clayton’s voice is divine and the ending makes me feel so safe and happy. James Goss is a fantastic writer!

Finished Smashed! Paging @Jamie …

I definitely liked this one more than most! Largely because of the first act, which I thought was really good. The rest… not so much!

Love James Goss, but not all his stories are hitters.

Glad you enjoyed!! I really didn’t like this one unfortunately :sob:

I thought you might not from your reply! If I relistened to it, I bet my rating would go down, but as a first listen I did find it enjoyable (save that bit in the middle where Gwen is very drunk…)

Also as I mentioned in my review – they were definitely Primords, right? Has anyone else noticed the similarities?

The drunk acting I remember being appalling :sob: I’m not sure on your second point I’ve only heard this once when it released!

It was just that drinking infected water from the depths of the Earth turned the townspeople into animalistic, doglike creatures. Quite similar to Inferno.

Not confirmed in the story or the extras, but that’ll be my head canon!

Plus wasn’t this story like…made in remembrance of somebody who passed away?

Touching thought, but the story really doesn’t hold up to being respectful in that regard imo

(If I’ve gotten the facts straight).

It was dedicated to Helen Griffin, who played the villain but passed away before the story was released. Eve Myles praises her acting and writing in the credits.

Who fans should recognise her Angela from Rise of the Cybermen!

That changes things then, thanks for clarifying

I do kinda wish the audio wasn’t as bad as it is considering it also honours Griffin’s work

Expectant!

With this one, The Dollhouse and Smashed I think I’ve listened all three TW Main Range stories that people dislike the most. Personally, while none were fantastic, I enjoyed all three! None were bad, just middling IMO.

Expectant is probably my least favourite of the three but still has some silver linings:

Just listened to Smashed.

And whilst it was definitely not one of my favourites, I think it is rated too harshly.

There was a really good story buried in there somewhere, I think it would have been better with about 50% less drunk acting.

But I love Gwen so much.

Although she was portrayed as a bit of an anti-environmentalist, calling him a ā€˜Guardian reader’ and a ā€˜tree hugger’, I thought that was a bit off character (at least off the character for Gwen that I have in my mind).

It was interesting! Don’t drink the water!!
