The road to 10,000 stories…

Every day is a learning day!

But how do I copy it from the wiki without getting all the unnecessary gumph?

You need to copy the whole table.

I’ll have a practice outside of the holy relic of the grand order of TARDIS Guide spreadsheet.

I’m happy to help out as well. I won’t be doing loads (at least until the end of the school year), but I can check against my own overlarge spreadsheet and see if I can spot anything missing and add that.

So, as a newbie I thought I’d start with something simple, and have been adding the Big Finish Benny Short Story anthologies, putting in the basic info. Even so, I already have checks and questions:

  1. Should I put the novella collections on the same sheet?
  2. You are skipping the 978- at the beginning of ISBNs?
  3. The ISBN only goes on the first story of an anthology?
  4. Where do you list framing sequences that are split across the book? First? Last? Follow the wiki (which would be my choice)?
  5. Also, what do you call them? The wiki is inconsistent, sometimes usind the anthology title (e.g., “Present Danger”) and sometimes describing it (e.g., “Secret Histories framing sequence”).
  6. What do you do about audio? Should The Christmas Collection go on the same page when it’s only on audio, and do anthologies that appear in both print/ebook and audio reading get two entries or what?

Sorry for all the questions, want to get it right!

I will try to answer:

  1. I don’t know. Are they the same or different?
  2. I just use what they write on the TARDIS.wiki
  3. All of them
  4. Follow the wiki sounds good
  5. Don’t know exactly what you mean but Story name.
  6. Audio on one sheet and short story on another

Ask more if you have any more questions.

In response to @Tian’s answer to @elvwood’s first question…

There are Benny short story collections, which are what the sound like anthologies containing a bunch of short stories, usually 10-20 stories.

There are novels, which are, well, novels.

And in between there are books that are anthologies each containing three novellas. They’re not short story collections and they’re not novels.

Hopefully that helps someone who knows what’s needed on the spreadsheet to actually answer the question.

On a separate but related note, I’ve taken a stab at adding the remaining Bernice Summerfield novels. I’m hoping that when someone does the second pass at those, they’ll let me know if I’ve taken any missteps (and I’ll be happy to correct as needed.

Thanks folks.

  1. Looking at it, the wiki treats the short story collections and novella collections the same. Big Finish production codes do too, although they are marketed differently on the covers. So, on balance it seems sensible to put them together.
  2. Right, I’ll correct that.
  3. Ditto.
  4. I think the best thing is to follow the wiki where possible.
  5. If nobody objects I’ll skip the words “framing sequence” where they add nothing.
  6. I’ll skip audio for now.

I’ll try to get back to that sheet on Friday (it’s a manic time until then).

Okay, I’ve done what I can, I think, on the Lethbridge-Stewart novels & novellas.

Wondering if we should have a separate sheet for the Lethbridge-Stewart anthologies.

I guess Candy Jar’s UNIT books will be added separately from L-S. In my head, they’re a continuation of the line, but CJ considers them a separate series.

I did start having a crack at the New Adventure Preludes yesterday but other stuff got in the way. I will get back to them at some point.

Any recent plans on uploading stories from Tales from the TARDIS (2 volumes)? (*°ー°)v
I was just reading Vampire Science and noticed that it’s not Sam’s first trip, and went trough her timeline on TARDIS Wiki. It appears that her first trip is the short story Bounty from Earth and Beyond and later released in Tales from the TARDIS: Volume Two.

I was about to comment that Tales of the TARDIS is already on the site, but then I realized that you are talking about Tales from the TARDIS! Doctor Who can be confusing sometimes :joy:

New Adventures Preludes are now complete on the spreadsheet.

I listened to Tales from the TARDIS: Volume 2 fairly recently. While nothing overly impressive story-wise (they’re still good), they are read by Paul McGann. Also including are abridged audiobook reading of the Target Novelizations of Planet of the Daleks (read by Jon Pertwee), Warriors of the Deep (read by Peter Davison), Vengeance on Varos (read by Colin Baker) and the TV Movie (read by McGann). It’s a shame that the novel readings are abridged. I’d love to be in the alternate universe where Jon Pertwee narrated the unabridged novelization for Planet with Briggs’ Dalek voices.

I’ve started adding Lethbridge-Stewart short stories onto the L-S page, I’ll be happy to shift them to the L-S anthologies page, if one should happen to be set up.

Gonna be a while, as work is expecting me to do work these days.

@shauny I made two sheets today containing some TLV stuff that was missing (they are ready for upload):
