Anne and Tom (mild spoiler) are endgame but them getting together is whiplash inducing. I can never decide if I like Roy or not - ultimately I think he’s an unfortunate cog in a machine that chews him up and doesn’t care
The audios push a lot further with the whole Anne’s unethical science stuff, and I love when she gets challenged on it. But it’s an interesting characterisation for her to have because she’s not punished by the narrative for being kind of callous. I LOVE HER!!!
At Gally we got Lou and John Dorney to sign an OF CD, and John Dorney told us we should ‘kidnap Jason Haigh-Ellery’s wife and kick him in the nuts’ to persuade him to produce more. And we did bump into Jason and passed on the message[1]
Here’s hoping the seeds have been planted strongly enough for more
Episode seven today! Finally got back around to it. Really enjoyed this one, it was very focused on the conflicts between the characters. Wish they’d stop hurting Anne though, she nearly suffocates and almost gets stabbed several times, and I need nothing bad to happen to her ever. I just love her so much
That’s something I find the audios really capitalise on, thr fact that she loves the science and being A Scientist so much that it overrides certain other ethics she should have
Maybe I should finally finish one of the essays I have half written about this series…
I’m really looking forward to the audios! As wonderful as it is to watch Louise Jameson, I’m very excited to hear what they’re doing with the story in them
And episode eight! The plot feels a bit repetitive to me at this point, like there’s not really that much happening and it pretty much always goes the same like we set up a nice mystery, here that is the out of body experience of Tom’s brother and also his homoerotic? friendship with Hamish, that is eventually half uncovered and reveals some connection to Omega which is usually pretty confusing and then Tom half-solves the problem with his psychic powers. Granted, this one does end in tragedy which is a nice change. Still enjoyed it though
I love the way Anne moves, there’s something so mesmerizing about it, like she’s got all these tiny habits, the way she plays with her hands or tilts her head. At one point she does a little gesture with her hand while talking that looks just like one I always do which I found really cute somehow
Also for some reason she has a bandaged finger in this one? I didn’t notice anything to cause it last episode so maybe Louise Jameson just had an injury while filming but I might also just not have paid enough attention
most of the issues with this show come from the fact they had too many writers who had too many different ideas about what the show was and it made it very messy
I think episode nine might be my favourite of these. It’s super strong on character conflicts and Tom and Anne have some really beautiful scenes together. I love how Anne stands up for herself with how Tom sees his dead wife and not being a replacement for her and demanding respect. She is very good in this episode and Louise Jameson is excellent.
And episode ten today! The ending is a bit nonsense and a little abrupt like it could have maybe used a second season to expand it. But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this series! It’s a lot of fun if you don’t expect things to make too much sense between episodes (I find that the episodes themselves were coherent, it’s just the threads in between that are a bit weird). Tom and Anne’s relationship in these last two was very good, and I like that Anne stays at the end even she is hurt by him leaving, because she really believes in the work she does. They are two very strong characters.
And who doesn’t love Louise Jameson? Anne Reynolds is the most perfect character ever and I adore her.
I’m very excited for the audios! It’s just the ones titled series 1-3 and the house that wasn’t haunted, yes? The books are separate if I understand correctly? The big finish site is mildly confusing
