I’m surprised I never made this thread before because I LOVE this series so much. But sircarolyn, I hear you ask, what is this strange niche terrible series from 1979 that later got a sequel audio series from Big Finish? I am glad you asked!
I will be honest, I am hopelessly in love with Louise Jameson and that’s the only reason I ever discovered this series. She plays a scientist of the supernatural called Anne Reynolds, and together with her new friend Tom Crane, they foil some sort of plot against an evil psychic guy who wants to take over the world or something.
I’m going to be honest with you, it’s been a while since I watched it and pretty much none of the single TV series makes any sense. I enjoyed it, but it’s basically nonsense.
Then, in 2016ish, Big Finish said ‘hey, we love Louise, let’s do a sequel!’ and this series of audios is brilliant. Now, we have John Dorney as Tom’s son with Anne, and the story actually makes sense! Hooray! There are three boxes and a special, and they are genuinely excellent. If you like unethical science, Louise Jameson, and the supernatural, I highly recommend.
I have been asked a few times if you need to watch the TV series to enjoy the audios. As I say, the TV series is compelling nonsense, but it’s not exactly good. If you’re not generally a 70s SF enjoyer, I’m not sure you would like it. And I think it does provide some context for the audios, but I also think they do a good job of setting it up in the audios so you could jump straight in there. Because the audios are set in the modern day, so 30odd years later, it is a reset point and it’s not like OF is exactly a widely known thing.
So yes, I think I do rec the TV show hesitantly, and if you PM me I can help you figure out where to watch it. But I firmly, completely rec the audios. They are honestly brilliant, and I love them so much. I’m feeling a relisten coming on…
