The Omega Factor

lmao when is it not…

Yes, s1-3 followed by the House special, the audiobooks are all extraneous and not necessary

I’m in love. I listened to the first episode From Beyond. This series translates extremely well to audio, I think it captures the spooky and at times genuinely terrifying aspects of the paranormal way better than seventies TV can. And the way it is focused on the people, and their dramas too.

Also utterly in love with Anne Reynolds, my love for her has multiplied again but that was to be expected. There is no break in continuity at all in the way Louise Jameson plays her, these could have been made two days after the series if it was just for her performance. She’s amazing :star_struck:

  • so this Adam works in an old people’s home apparently
  • and now something weird is going on
  • oh that beeping is kind of annoying
  • Anne!!!
  • I love her so much
  • oh I am just as outraged as her
  • now but we’re working on it love her
  • she is such a scientist
  • mean to her
  • oh yes stand up for yourself!!
  • the other scenes are weird but compelling so far
  • oh I like that they remember that she smokes
  • it’s an interesting character trait that is often forgotten these days
  • oh no
  • oh this is interesting
  • I wonder what happened between them
  • Anne and Tom I mean
  • and Adam appears to be Tom’s son only which is interesting
  • I would have assumed they’d go the route of making him both their kid
  • truly Anne’s voice>>>>>>>>>
  • she’s always so kind
  • they are so stupid for going against her by the way
  • this old lady is really sweet
  • I do love how she can read Adam
  • and how she does go at it in a scientist way immediately
  • oh no
  • oh shit
  • this is horrifying
  • oh no
  • poor mary
  • I really, really love how spooky these are

At Gally, Lou told us that around episode 7 the cast collectively decided to give up smoking which is why they all got so grumpy haha

yeh :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m so happy you liked it!! they get better from here too! Some of my highlight episodes are The Hollow Earth, Let The Angel Tell Thee, Let Us Play, and The House that Wasn’t Haunted but actually just looking through the list now I like all of them

Oh that is a really interesting fact and really cool! Now I want to rewatch already because I want to see in which scenes she does or doesn’t smoke. Truly must be so bad for the actors though because obviously you often have to do a scene several times. It’s something that always takes me a little off-guard when I watch older TV and all the characters smoke, because it really is much much less in the public consciousness nowadays

Also I’m really interested to see what the episodes Louise wrote are like, I want to hear how she is as a writer

Her first one is really good, and so is the second one but that one deals with some really heavy stuff so definitely take caution going into that one.

I didn’t much care for the DW episode she wrote for Eighth of March though

Listened to the second episode the old gods today. Don’t really have anything more to say rn, all the things from the first episode still stand. I like how much Anne already cares for Adam, and how she can really hold her own in many situations. She’s got more experience now than in the TV show and I feel like you can really tell

  • Anne is a bit unethical here. love it
  • the commune does seem a bit odd
  • okay so what’s Adam dreaming about
  • and she knows these things
  • also love Anne’s approach to things
  • this research thing is odd too
  • okay what now
  • what is Adam doing
  • oh Anne getting angry!!
  • she needs to be in charge but it’s based on experience so it makes sense
  • oh I love her tone of voice when she mentions Tom
  • have I mentioned how much I love Anne
  • so so much
  • still a weird vibe
  • I just like having really odd conversations after breakfast honestly same
  • I love this type of high stakes conversations like between Anne and Fennick
  • oh that’s creepy
  • I like the way they’re sort of jumping between recounting a story and the experience
  • oh Anne
  • the way her voice breaks because she is worried for Adam
  • also a gun?! that’s. honestly that’s fair
  • uh this seems bad
  • very bad
  • stop hurting Anne!!
  • the ■■■■ is happening to him
  • truly Elenor how can you say no to Anne
  • I’d do anything for her
  • yes
  • Fennick is playing with powers he does not understand
  • I do love that Adam is Anne’s first priority here

Today I listened to Legion while going on a little walk (so no liveblog). Morag is back! This one is really good, very spooky, I really like how it picks up so many of the unresolved threads from the TV show. Also in general the audio design of these is so good, again this is a genre that is so well suited to it and they’re really using that to its full potential.

The Hollow Earth today. Anne and Adam are so precious. The way it’s all portrayed through recordings is genius for this type of mystery. The characters have real conversations with each other, it feels real. And there’s also some really interesting thoughts on science, religion and the supernatural and their relationship here. This is an excellent episode!

Somnum Sempiternum. Some interesting and creepy stuff with astral projection. I love Adam, he’s a mess

The Changeling. Yeah, this is the really good stuff. Some absolutely AMAZING character moments for both Anne and Adam. I adore Anne so much. The premise and its execution and the sound design make it creepy. But I love most how the real villains in this story are the people. The dead child’s mother most of all. And how it all boils down to homophobia and fear of difference.

There’s a really beautiful quote from Anne in there, slightly paraphrased maybe:

The changeling. It’s a myth of a child, whose difference, for whatever reason, makes people afraid. […] the only true part of the story is fear. Blind, ignorant fear.

Let The Angel Tell Thee. Written by Louise Jameson herself. And holy shit, what an episode. This pulls no stops at all. And God, does it show off her talent. Adam has really become as close to her son as he can be now. Her care for him? good God, those scenes in the ambulance. ■■■■■■■ hell. And her terrified when Anthony is after her? Terrified enough to get out her gun. Holy shit. And honestly the fact that she gets manipulated by him. Her joy at being admired. Not wanting to admit it might not be real. And that ending? Her talking to Tom who is somehow, maybe still watching over her. That bittersweet grief. Louise Jameson, the woman that you are. Incredible.

small liveblog as a treat

Awakening. Truly I just love this series. Tense as hell, I love Morag being back, Adam’s family being in danger gives him great stuff to work with. And the tragedy of it. Yeah, I highly recommend this series if anyone else is reading this.

Under Glass. The quality of these continue to astound me. Spooky, tense and very strong on the ‘begging characters not to do things’ this one

Let Us Play. Amazingly creepy, the ending hurt me, please let Adam have a nice day for once , loved the way that Adam and Anne are now close enough that he managed to psychically call her. Or maybe she’s just spent enough time around it finally that she’s picking up things? 10/10 episode!
