Poll about our many Clubs

I’ve read some really good stuff from DWM, but for every outstanding story, there’s also a mediocre one. If the consensus on the Comic Club is to just stick with the Titan stuff, then I’ll just go ahead and fill those in on my “schedule update” document.

Question of @Tian’s Comic Club spreadsheet: Time Lord Victorious: Defender of the Daleks and Doom’s Day: A Doctor in the House? aren’t on there. Where do you want them in the order?

Doom’s Day looks to be just before Once Upon a Time Lord in publication order.

According to the Wiki: From the perspective of the Tenth Doctor, the story picks up shortly after where the then-upcoming Doctor Who Comic story Alternating Current left off, which ended up releasing out of order due to it being delayed. So TLV should be after the Thirteenth Doctor stuff.

Update: So I’ve inserted these onto my document in the slots I’ve described above and added the Fifteenth Doctor (which the wiki describes as a miniseries) at the end.

No - personally I’d like to start including the VMA’s - though not until we naturally reach Blood Harvesr/Goth Opera. It could be a third book each month or alternate between the VNA & VMA.

So the Club (Book) that I thought would stay the same has a handful of people wanting it to branch out (VMAs, EDAs). The TV and Audio clubs are the most in flux as to how to proceed, and comics are staying where they are.

TBH I am having a lot of trouble keeping up, although a lot of that is because I joined late in the first place & so was playing catch-up from the start. My thoughts on each club are:

TV Club - I would prefer to slot the spinoffs in at their correct points according to their original airdates, but have no preference regarding making it a separate club or amending the schedule for the main club.

Audio club - This is the one I am the most behind on. This is mostly due to the fact that I already listen to other audios as well, but the current issues with the BF app have meant I haven’t been listening to much BF at all for the last few weeks. Personally I’d like to keep it the way it is, as it is the first time I will have listened to most of the Monthly Range, but wouldn’t object to an additional club for other ranges (which should either track with the timeline of the Monthly Range where relevant e.g. Graceless, or be something completely separate like Diary of River Song or The War Master.)

Book Club - Fine as it is for the moment, but add VMA’s from the point when they started to be published, either as a third book or alternating with the VNA’s. Personally I wouldn’t have time to add the EDA’s/PDA’s as well unless they alternated with something else, but if we don’t, it’ll be years before we get to them so I can understand why some people would want to.

Comic Club - Fine as it is - the Titan comics are all new to me & I’m enjoying them, but wouldn’t have time for any more.

If we wanted to start Galifrey we should do it after Zagreus then :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: (not that the Gallifrey timeline is particularly compatible with the rest of BF but that’s another story)

But I do agree that I think we should pick one other range, if we do more audios, and complete that before jumping about into other stuff

TBH I don’t think that the TLV and Dooms day once should be in the Club. They are much more tied to the events than to Titan and should be read in that context. Maybe we can have an event club in the future :joy:

Fifteen should be at the end.

My thought was that because most of Big Finish’s other ranges were split up into seasons, we could alternate between ranges doing a season at a time. So we could do say a season of Benny, a season of Gallifrey, a season of FDAs, a season of Companion Chronicles, etc.

Okay, sounds good. I’ll adjust my document.

Yeah, I can see the appeal of that as well. Personally, I’m not bothered either way but I guess it comes down to if people prefer wanting to dip into a bunch of different things or if they want to blast through an entire range at a time. Which for, say Graceless would be easier than like Benny purely due to quantity

Yes I’d rather follow a range (or a series in a range) than skip about at random, but Graceless is a spinoff from the Monthly Range so it’s much too early for that yet. I would be in favour of Gallifrey (after Zagreus, naturally! :-)) or the Companion Chronicles. But it might be nice if we did some NuWho (eg 9DA’s) or different Classic Doctors (4DA’s or 3DA’s) or Lost Stories. (But I have to plead a vested interest in some of these suggestions, as I’ve already listened to them recently…!)

As gloriously inconclusive as this poll and discussion has been, we’ve come to a couple of tentative decisions and we’re going to try a couple of things out. Apologies to @DarthGallifrey for mucking up his carefully curated schedules. Details of what we’re going to try out to follow…

Any hints at what’ll be tried out? :eyes:

Here’s the plan - on a tentative trial basis!

Starting tomorrow - Saturday 31st August - will be Audio Club Extra for a limited three (or four) week run. It will be discussing the Excelis Trilogy.

The main Audio Club will continue through the first 50 releases of the Monthly Adventures and then, after Zagreus we will take a brief detour into a different Big Finish range - look out for a poll to decide which range we explore - Companion Chronicles, Dalek Empire, Short Trips or something else?

When TV Club reaches the end of Series 2 of the modern series with Doomsday, we will branch off into Torchwood Series 1, before returning to The Runaway Bride and continuing with Series 3.

The Torchwood episode discussions will drop each fortnight, alternating with the classic series episodes which will continue unaffected by these changes.

We will see how these experiments work and if successful look at what else we want to add into the Clubs.

Remember though that everyone is more than welcome to start threads discussing anything - we already have lively discussions about the Lost Stories and the Eleventh Doctor and Valerie adventures.

You say “three (or four)”. Does that mean you’re including “Plague Herds” that acts as an epilogue to the trilogy and explains the backstory of the trilogy’s mcguffin?

Oy! No spoiler-y stuff.
I haven’t heard these yet :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Added spoiler tags. I’ve not heard these either!

Yes by 4 he means the fourth story.

Sorry, wasn’t thinking. Also thought I was vague enough.

This sounds good! Good exposure for the Excelis Trilogy, which I have totally forgotten about. And what a great idea to slot in Torchwood as well because it’s ripe for a rewatch!

I’m saying we’ll see if those who engage want to do it (as its technically a separate ‘franchise’).
