Released today, this is one of two brand new Fifteenth Doctor novels in the New Series Adventures range. Starring the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra, it’s written by Emily Cook, who may be known as a producer for Big Finish. The book features real-life historical figure Grace Darling, a Victorian woman who saved the survivors of a steamship after it ran aground.
“Stepping into the role of writer was a fascinating experience. Once I started, the story took over my mind and I was constantly thinking about it.At times, that was exhilarating; at other times, exhausting. The Doctor and Grace Darling couldn’t be more different, yet they’re both considered ‘heroes’ in their own right. What does it mean to be a hero? I was really interested in that.”

Publisher's Synopsis
Northumberland, 1838. The TARDIS crash lands on board a sinking steamship. Stranded, the Doctor and the few survivors fight for their lives – while the local lighthouse keeper’s daughter, Grace Darling, risks her life to row to their rescue.
Lauded a heroine, Grace struggles to cope with her new-found fame. But the Doctor senses something else is troubling Grace. She’s been tormented by the terrifying vision she saw out at sea in the storm. There’s a monster in her mind, wrecking ships and stealing the souls of the drowned.
And it’s real.
Just for fun, you can rate this book out of ten once you have finished it!
Love that the author named the kid after herself. I don’t know if it is just because I have been thinking a lot about Eleven recently, but I read the Doctor as him and not Fifteen.
I am a couple of chapters in, and I really like the writing and the story. It is such a great environment. I thought that Belinda was going to be in this, but it seems like it is a solo adventure for Fifteen.
I am seven chapters in and it is already clear that this is something extra. The writing is really good and the setting is really interesting. It is also very clear that Emily Cook really loves Doctor Who. Can’t wait to continue this book!
I have listened to very little Benny, but the huge amount of material with her overwhelmed me a bit. I am currently on Transit when it comes to VNA, and it’s so bad that I have been working my way through it for about 8 months now…
