Movie time

It is a worthwhile question to be asking; I regularly need to consider this as part of my day job. Overmilking of established IPs is definitely a problem in the industry. But I think just chalking it all up to ‘bad fanfiction’ is pretty reductive, both in its scope of what fanfiction is (pretty much anything based on Lovecraft in the past century qualifies as such), and just basic definitions. Fanfiction is made by… well, fans of the material, and the studios pumping out product of that nature aren’t really fans beyond the money potential of said product. Bit of a Conrad situation, where it’s the right conversation but the wrong direction to take it.

I still haven’t seen Barbie (and Oppenheimer doesn’t really appeal).

Wtf? Watch Barbie!

Oppenheimer was far too long, but a good movie (most movies are too long tbf).

Yeah I probably agreed with this, while I think Oppenheimer was the much better spectacle, I don’t think thats holds up as well outside of a cinema sound system. Meanwhile you can get the full experience with a $5 set of speakers

Oppenheimer is indeed very long, when I expected the movie was over as it reached a natural conclusion, boy was I surprised to find out there was still another 45 minutes.

Yeah that was my problem with it.

Yep, I saw the title of that video and cringed. It annoys me a bit when people describe media they don’t like as akin to “bad fanfic”, not to mention the videos of random YT channels/celebrities reading what they deem as “bad fanfic” for laughs. People don’t care to understand that behind every posted work is an actual person—an actual fan—who wrote what they did out of sheer love for their fandom, even if it does have SPAG errors or isn’t entirely in character[1]. Oh, and they wrote it for FREE. In a world where there’s a push to monetize every little hobby one has, where everyone wants to hide anything that can be perceived as “imperfect”, people are so quick to tear down fic writers for doing (and sharing) what brings them joy for no cost at all. Unabashedly.

  1. and don’t get me started on those who think fanfic is junk purely because it only involves sex, which (1) isn’t true in the slightest and (2) isn’t a good argument because there’s nothing wrong with smut/erotica ↩︎

I tried to get tickets for this, thankfully it was recorded for the BFI’s website.

He’s definitely an odd individual but I do respect his genuine love of film.

Definitely one of the best soundtracks in anime. The intro sequence is also really cool and stylish. Seriously, this is worth the watch just because it looks stunning

The theme for Stand Alone Complex is great too.

Great fun, some occasional dodgy CGI aside this is how you bring a franchise back. & a surprisingly touching final appearance from Tony Todd.
