Movie time

Natasha Lyonne is :heart_on_fire: Some cool choices, & additions to my watchlist.

I’m a fan of the director but do we need this?

Can’t be much worse than Rambo: Last Blood.

I thought the same but if it’s going to exist I think he’s the man for the job. Made want to rewatch to Sisu as well.

Sisu was fantastic. Don’t ■■■■ with a Fin I guess, @MrColdStream

Red Band trailer.

& Rare Exports is a great Christmas movie.

I still haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard good things about it.

Jalmari Helander is a very talented director. It’s a shame he hasn’t gotten a real international breakthrough yet.

Big Game seemed like his attempt to breakthrough but it didn’t seem to happen

Which is a shame. Samuel L. Jackson kicking ass as the US president in the Finnish wilderness - what’s better than that?!

Watched The Devil Wears Prada, since I’d never seen it nor read the book and I’m going to the musical (with Queen Vanessa Williams!!!) next month. I was underwhelmed. If I hadn’t wanted to see it before the musical, I would’ve just stopped halfway through. It didn’t make me laugh, and I didn’t find it compelling. And its moral of “Vogue is important actually” is questionable.

It’s time.
I’m finally watching “Dune - Part One”.

I’ve read those books so, so many times so I am not sure if anything could ever live up to what I picture in my mind, but here we go :slightly_smiling_face:

Whisky has been poured :tumbler_glass:

Halfway through “Dune - Part One”.

I’m not sure if I really like it that much…
It seems like the casting process was just:
Casting director: Are you famous?
Actor: Yes, very
Casting director: You’re hired!

Several casting choices feels so wrong to me. I think I am just in too deep with the source material to disengage that part of my brain :person_shrugging::wink:

Liet-Kynes being a woman is fine, it makes no real difference to the story - but why call her “he” twice before we see her? That just seems a bit like rage baiting somehow :person_shrugging:

Oscar Isaac is perfect casting for Duke Leto!

The music is beautiful, but just does not fit the Dune universe I’ve had in my mind for the last 25 years…

I’ll refill the whisky glass and watch the rest

I watched “Dune - Part 2” tonight.
That was much more like it! What a movie!

Couple of questionable casting decisions (what a waste of Christopher Walker…), but overall so, so good. And gorgeous!
Zendaya was fantastic as Chani, and I really enjoyed the twists they made on her character even if I am kind of on the fence about how Chani was so antagonistic at the end…

Can’t wait to see how they tackle “Dune: Messiah”!

Ended a pretty bad day by watching a thriller masterpiece. Poisonous tale of toxic relationship. Will be thinking about this one for a while. It’s weird how J-Horror became my comfort food. The choice of song for end credits is absolutely crazy

I love Denis Villeneuve’s films but my opinion on his Dune. I still haven’t watched part 2…

I don’t say this to sound like one of the Cool Kidz but I prefer David Lynch’s version. In no way is it a great movie but its far more visually interesting than this, the costumes & production design etc more engaging than this bland looking offering. But I am not a Dune completist, I read the book years ago but none of the others.

I am :person_raising_hand::wink:
Love that universe!

Part two builds on the visual elements of Part One, but adds so much more. The Harkonnen homeworld of Giedi Prime is super interestingly done. And all the Fremen culture is really well done.

I would definitely give Part two a go :+1:

Though I am 100% convinced that Christopher Walken had absolutely no idea what was going on around him during shooting…

I’m not sure Christopher Walken knows what’s going on around him most of the time…

Just come out of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, bloody brilliant film from start to end, possibly the most stressed I’ve ever felt in the cinema haha

Dead Reckoning Part One (or Dead Reckoning as its retroactively called now) wasn’t my favourite of the franchise but I’m looking forward to seeing The Final Reckoning. Going to the BFI IMAX next Saturday, the only day decent seats were available.
