Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill return to Doctor Who in new Thirteenth Doctor adventures

Imagine if Christian Bale was there too and auditioning to be the next Doctor, but Ncuti Gatwa beat him to it.

I will always wonder who it was that they almost hired, but changed their minds at the last minute when they saw Gatwa audition.

Perhaps they will become the Sixteenth Doctor.

Will be annoying if it was Hayley Atwell because I have always wanted her to be the Doctor.

I just read the piece about this in DWM and it’s delightful, they are such wonderful human beings and I’m so glad they are part of the Whoniverse! :confetti_ball:

It’s a great interview, isn’t it? Their love of the show and affection for each other really shines through. I’m very much looking forward to these. July 2025 seems such a long way off, but I have a feeling it’ll be worth the wait.

Right now, I’m really hoping that Lisa McMullin gets to write for Thirteen and Yaz. I have a feeling she could do something special.

Be nice if she script edits the range too.

Just keep Nick Briggs away from it. Remember the 9th Doctor story Ravagers?

Idk man i actually really liked ravagers :no_mouth:

Got to admit, it’s not my favourite, but it was great to hear Eccleston back in role. Some fun ideas in there too.

I liked it too, certainly not the worst Briggs script I’ve ever heard…

I only heard Ravagers once and that was enough. The delight at having Chris Eccleston as the Doctor was severely compromised during that one! Perhaps I should listen to it again …

The leap in quality with the following tales really ensured the 9DAs were ultimately something special.

As I recall, Nick has written debut stories for Doctors 9, War, 4 and if you want to include the multi-Doc Sirens of Time, 5, 6 and 7. There’s a chance he’ll want to helm Jodie’s debut, I’d say.

Who are the main writers we’re all hoping will be working on this range?

I’m begging for another Joe Lidster script - he’s done a few for spin-offs recently, but we’ve been deprived a proper Who script from him for years!

John Dorney and Tim Foley.

I just want them to work on everything all the time.

But yeah, also Joseph Lidster, good shout.

Jac Rayner and Lisa McMullin are good. I’d like to see some female writers for a female Doctor. At this point I’ll take anyone but Briggs. Nothing against him but I think he needs to take a bit of a break.

Oh, Lisa McMullin would be great for that.

After listening to Broken Hearts, I just want more of her in everything.

Also, we need some of that character writing for 13 and Yaz quick.

Controversial opinion. I’m honestly bored with John Dorney.

He’s one of the most talented writers working for BigFinish, and by far the most prolific, but I think he needs a much deserve holiday or he’s gonna burn himself out. There have been a few stories the past few years from him where I’ve just been really meh on them - ‘Here Lies Drax’ comes to mind.

Tim Foley on the other hand, absolute big fat yes!

I honestly feel like he’s overtaken Dorney of late as the most popular writer for BigFinish, and I can honestly see him becoming the most prolific too.

Whatever do you mean, Darth?

Briggsy should always write for every range, and it’s a great idea to let him create the first release

This strategy has never gone wrong before

Handed note from off-screen

Ravagers? Sorry, I must’ve forgotten about that waste of time since listening to it was like being lobotomised!

Gonna be honest, this was much more amusing in my head.

As yourself and @DarthGallifrey both mentioned her, yeah, Lisa McMullin definitely needs to be in the writing line-up.

13 & Yaz need their ‘Broken Hearts’ - or ‘Scherzo’, depending on your reference point - moment of pure character.

If we’re talking good female writers for this range, I’m gonna suggest the wonderful AK Benedict.

Literally everything I’ve heard from her has been marvellous.

Lisa McMullin and AK Benedict are really good shouts. I’d also really like to see Georgia Cook write one.

Ideally there’d be more female writers than male on this range but count me as another for Tim Foley to write one, his recent output has been very impressive.

And, purely off the back of his recent Eleventh Doctor and Valarie run, I would be happy to see Alfie Shaw’s name on one.

I love seeing this thread pop back up again - reminds me we’ve got these audios to come! They’re real!

Maybe I should listen to more AK Benedict because I’ve only heard two stories from her: The Victorian Age and Superiority Complex.

Superiority Complex is fine, I guess, my favourite in a set I really didn’t like.

And The Victorian Age is utterly terrible, so I’m yet to see anything I’d call “great” from her, but very willing to check out more of her stuff.
