Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill return to Doctor Who in new Thirteenth Doctor adventures

I’ve been hoping to see Katharine Armitage write more for BF too, her Gallifrey scripts are excellent

Yes to all of these. McMullin, in particular, is a stand out. I really like Benedict and Cook as well. Getting more female voices writing for Jodie and Mandip would be great.

I agree. Foley is really making a mark. He has a rich imagination and knows how to write engaging dialogue that captures the character.

You are not wrong. Would be an excellent call!

Is it just me or are Big Finish experiencing a real flourishing of writing talent right now?

Yeah I’m also finding Dorney’s more recent stories not as good as some of his older stuff.

Timothy X Atack, David K Barnes, Lizzie Hopley, Matthew Sweet, Marc Platt, Tim Foley, Mark Wright and Simon Guerrier would be a dream lineup of writers for me. Apart from writing really good stories, each of the above all has a unique way of telling a story which would add the spice of variety to any series they were all involved in.

Now the only one from that list that I think would point blank refuse to work on this range is Marc Platt.

He’s made it known several times in the past that he considers the 2005 revival to be non-canon and generally isn’t a fan of stuff relating to that era, unfortunately.

I didn’t know that! What a fool!

oh, he’s one of those guys

I didn’t know that either. It’s a shame, because I’d love to hear his take on Jodie and Mandip. I’ve loved nearly all his stories, and his two-part The Skin of the Sleek, apart from being a great Fourth Doctor/Romana 2 story, also reminded me of the chaos of much of the Flux series.

Still, I absolutely respect his viewpoint.

Thanks for the information!

Never thought of it that way, but I agree.

I absolutely adore that two-parter.

One of the reasons Series Six is my favourite run of 4DAs.

(Would love a Dark Gallifrey trilogy focused on Sartia too)

His stance honestly reminds me a lot of Lawrence Miles attitude towards the 2005 revival.

Except that unlike Lozza, he doesn’t accuse RTD of stealing his ideas at every given opportunity.

Seriously, that man’s Twitter feed is… fascinating :joy:

I met Lawrence Miller once. Hmmmm…

oh not him too

He’s undoubtedly an excellent writer, but someone who plays into the stereotype of writers being absolute divas (no idea if it’s intentional or not, though I doubt it).

Could be worse.

They could be genuinely rotten people like Baxendale and Roberts.

I’m so happy the latter has finally vanished into obscurity, though took way too long for that to happen.

One of my dear friends is a big Sartia enthusiast, I’m sure she would say absolutely the same!

I’d like new writers personally. My dream would be for Big Finish to open up for unsolicited script submissions for The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures.

I don’t mean like a competition such as the Paul Spraggs one, but essentially a situation where any script that they like, Big Finish can then pay that writer to work on it. It would be a great way to allow more voices to break into the media industry.

I’d love Juno Dawson to write for the range

I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t tbh.

Late as ever, I’ve just listened to the podcast Fifth Opera, specifically the brief interview with Jodie and Mandip. They seem like naturally effervescent people who love each other’s company, but even with that in mind, they appear to be having a great time recording these stories. I’m already really looking forward to hearing them, and that interview isn’t doing my patience any favours!

Saw this (https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1981394/bbc-doctor-who-jodie-whittaker-return) and thought “old news”, but saw it was dated to today and upon skimming through, learned that they’ve recorded three of the twelve so far. So, the big takeaway is that, a. they’re being recorded in one large block, and that b. they might not all have been written yet.
